How to do this?

I began a league that I thought was constructed the way I want it: Beginning in a specific historical season (1980 in this case), taking over a team as GM/MGR. I used a fantasy draft to stock the teams. My expectation was that the 1980 amateur draft, and all succeeding drafts (as well as international pools) would contain actual players (Darryl Strawberry, etc., in this draft). Now that the draft pool has been revealed, I see it is made up of only fictional players. Ugh, many wasted hours to not get what I wanted. What did I do wrong? Can I fix this now that my inaugural season has started? Can I revert to a date before the pool was revealed and change a setting to get real players in my draft? Thanks.
