I mourn the day primary discussions moved from Usenet to Web-based formats of all types.

Turned 53 this year and been playing OOTP since OOTP 6 in 2004. BUT...I really started when i was the tender age of 13 with Micro League Baseball on my Commodore 64 and then Front Page Sports: Baseball Pro on my home computer. So, I'm working on 40 years of being a baseball stat nerd.

52 been playing since 2016 but the game reminds me of a game I played in the mid-80’s called Micro league baseball

Miamikb2001, i started with Micro League baseball with my buddy. Dwight Gooden pitched a no hitter in a game one time.

By the way, I recently turned 54. I've been baseball simulation gaming since the mid 80's.

Me too. Same age. My grandkids evince no enthusiasm for OOTPB. Yet.

At 71, I refuse to buy into the world getting worse whining. My kids are improved versions of the old man, and the grandkids another upgrade. I hope they never have to learn cursive writing. What for?

I'm gonna be honest.... I would struggle to write a random sentence in cursive without slowly thinking out the letters along the way. It's been 20+ years since I've written in cursive with any type of consistency. In 20 something years of being in the working world as a somewhat functional adult, cursive has been non existent short of people signing their name.

If we want to focus our grumpy old energy on something in the schools, let's shift that attention to the "new" weird way of teaching math that doesn't make any sense to me haha

Seriously though, I'm all for talking crap about the younger generation. They usually deserve it lol but I have no problem with them not teaching cursive anymore - you don't need it.

At 56, everything I write is in cursive. It's not a thought process; it's just natural for me. To me it makes sense because I think it's more efficient. You don't lift your writing device from the surface between letters. I have to consciously make the decision to print something instead of writing cursive.

Honestly I use the forums because it's easier to look at older posts in the mods section and save logos and jerseys and such unlike with discord where that's more difficult to do (at least it is to me).
I would've been in the <19 age category a few years ago when I first started browsing the forums here. I began to realize that the average user here skews older when someone made a post inquiring about the possibility of adding female players, and several users absolutely imploded at a simple suggestion. But of course some of the older folks here will claim that their generation is perfect and it's the kids that lost their manners.

Reddit/Discord is definitely where you're going to find a younger base.

That's a cycle that's been going on longer than any of us have been alive. I don't get caught up in that mindset because I know many of the things us older people think about the younger generation were once thought of about us when we were the younger generation.

62 in 21 days. I'm from England and started watching baseball in the early 80's but then had a long break until this season. First picked up OOTP during Covid but this year is the first time i've really delved into it and love everything about it.

I love forums but do frequent Discord as well but it's just such a huge mess of messages that it's tough to keep up with properly.

With 12 grandkids and a great grandkid I seriously worry about the world they are growing up in. News this past week has just been horrendous and it's nice to be able to lose myself in this game.

I stopped cursive writing many, many years ago but do like to see nice handwriting, cursive or otherwise.

I do wish you could like posts though.. so many here I would have given a thumbs up to.

50.

Played the Statis Pro Baseball board game as a teenager.

Joined the Army and board game night with the platoon was more Axis and Allies or Risk.

My baseball gaming was on the PlayStation with Triple Play Baseball but didn't like that my pushing the buttons was more important than the actual skill of a player so I wanted something more authentic. Started playing Baseball Mogul in the early 2000s after finding it in a bargain bin at K-Mart. Loved the experience and wanted a more detailed game so went to Pure Sim Baseball and then found OOTP 6 and never looked back.

I loved PureSim. I used to play it every day and loved the presentation on it. I also liked that you could make a suggestion and the developer might throw it in for the next day. I spent a lot of time setting up parks and images and players for that game. If it was still being developed I probably never would have switched to OOTP. To me, PureSim had the right amount of options and didn't overwhelm you with information. To me, it was more fun to play than OOTP ever has been.

I spent a lot of time with Puresim as well prior to OOTP, it was an excellent game.

Is there a reddit for OOTP as well? I am old.

I don't know if we are mad, it's just the things we had to do in previous generations are a lot easier now. Watching a movie on a phone was not on the radar when I was growing up.

Unfortunately things that suck are easier to do now as well, like anonymous assholes on social media platforms. At least in the past it was generally just restricted to "that guy" at your bar of choice or something. Now "that guy" is everywhere, he's impossible to hide from.
