Finally!

Hundreds and hundreds of games played out, and now, finally, an inside-the-park home run. LOL. Marv Breeding of the Orioles against Bo Belinsky of the Phillies, Spring Training 1965. A shot to CF that eludes Tony Gonzalez and bounces off the fence. Three runs score!

Sadly, the graphics fail to do the play justice. The ball bounces right back to Gonzalez, who stands helpless before turning and hitting the cutoff man (Ruben Amaro Sr.). Amaro (after also pausing) throws a strike to catcher Paul Casanova, but the plodding Breeding has already scored. The timing is way off.

Marv Breeding hit .267 for Baltimore in 1960 as a rookie, and never came close to that performance thereafter, bouncing to the Dodgers and Senators and back to the Orioles' minor league system. In 1964 he hit .248 and .222 in two AAA stints with little power. He would never return to MLB IRL.

Just had to share.

That's a long drought... congratulations!

I think the greatest home run one of my players ever hit was when reservist and probably shouldn't be a major-leaguer Wayne Connally hit a pinch-hit inside-the-park grand slam. I'll probably never see a HR like that again. Unfortunately it was in a game that I did not play out, so it doesn't really count in the same way.

Oddly, since this was Spring Training, I hit auto-play until the seventh inning. Decided to play out the last three innings. Glad I did. I hardly ever use autoplay for part of a game - - all or nothing. Maybe I should?

If I'm getting hammered 8-1 in the 4th or something like that, I do auto-play the rest of the game and you would be surprised how many times I've won the game. It's so many times that I laugh. Also, I love when those outfielders do that delay holding the ball. Then I already know the runner is safe. I keep yelling for him to throw the damn thing. It's gets really frustrating you have to laugh. It's also caused me to auto-play the rest of the game.
