Ratings and Position Question
I have a player that is rated at two positions: with 2B at 65 and SS at 55. If I set his position in game at 2b and I in turn start him in the lineup at SS instead, what overall and potential does the game use if his overall/potential is 50/50 at 2B and 60/60 at SS ?
Does the game only use the overall/potential ratings showing for that said position in the lineup or will the game use his ratings to what position I set him to even though I start him at another position? Also, if he starts at SS and plays 5 innings then I move him to 2B will his overall/potential change ? |

Nothing actually changes here. The rating that the player has is comparatively based on the position that you have him set to. So setting his position to 2B to make his rating higher and then starting him at SS isn't turning him into a better player.
He is going to be the exact same hitter regardless of what position he is set to and what position he plays. I mean, right? He won't magically become a better hitter when he plays 2B. The only change is going to be defensively. And you already know his defensive ratings at 2B and at SS. Granted, those ratings could change as he develops experience at one position or the other. I guess what I'm saying is the rating you see when you set his position to 2B is his rating comparatively to other 2nd basemen. And then when you change his position to SS his rating change comparatively to other SS. But setting his position to whichever rating is higher and then actually playing him at the other position does not fool the game into making him a better player |

the overall ratings are compared to the absolute universe of players (this can be changed in the menu to compare only players of the same position).
If the 2B rating is 60/60 and the SS rating is less than 2B and considering that obviously the batting ratings don't change with the position, because they don't change, overall compared to the absolute universe of players should be better rated as 2B than SS. |

In my experience, if you use your AI manager, it will take the better defensive position rating and place your player there. I am sure there is some type of logic in the lineup generator (many threads on lineup placement) but again in my experience, the AI manager wants to have the highest defense position at that position.

Think this is default behaviour. Not my preference. Rather not have information altered due to what some one-size-fits-all coversion factor.
What i worry about with this setting is impact, if any, it has on AI talent evaluation. In this case if i saw anything funky, i'd learn to leave with seeing the overall ratings change by position, lol. |
