Changing Recalc Settings

Decade save playing the 1970's. Just finished the first season. My original settings were to recalc ratings according to real stats after each year. I was thinking of changing that setting to recalc according to the game ratings. Is this a wise move, and if so, when is the best time to change this setting?

After the playoffs.
Not sure what you mean by “recalc according to game ratings”.
Assuming you are playing historical. My suggestion would be to use 3 or 5 year recalc.. 1 year recalc tends to produce to many single season outliers for my taste. Several like to just use development engine.

I, too, am unsure what you mean regarding “recalc according to game ratings”. But I'd agree that the best time to change recalc settings would be after the playoffs. I'll also note that at any time you can go to the League Settings > Historical panel and on the lower right you click Recalculate Player Ratings.

Sorry for the confusion. Meaning the ratings produced by OOTP game performance, instead of what they did in real life.

If you are playing historical, I wouldn’t use game performance to reset ratings. Off hand I don’t know of anyone that has done that but someone probably has. I would think it would be a unique circumstance.

Question I ask myself is...

Am I ok with Steve Carlton being a nobody in my save while Brian Doyle turns into a Hall of Famer? If not, then I stay on recalc using single, 3 year, or 5 year... because that is the sort of thing that will happen if you use the Talent Development engine instead of recalc.

If you want a league where players are all "close" to their real life levels... then recalc is a must. If you find that boring... and prefer a little variety where maybe Bob Horner has a long outstanding career and earns a few MVPs... then Talent Development engine is the way to go.

Just my opinion having enjoyed both styles and loving 70's / 80's sims.

What do you do to get ratings based on performance in the game? I am not aware of a way of doing this. Development has some starting point based on a few lines of OOTP code squinting at a name doesn't matter line of code for a kid ballplayer and comes up with a starting point. Subsequent ratings are random magical calculations that sometimes make Tim Foli a multi time batting champion and put him in the HOF.

At least that's the way I understand it. If I'm missing something I hope someone can explain it.

Commissioner mode, player page, editor tab, batter or pitcher ratings, left side. Option to make ratings based on current stats.

That just changes their ratings based on the stats you enter on the lines just above it. It doesn't change anything based on their actual season/league output.
