Rookie Ball Schedule

Anyone know how to change the start date of the Rookie Ball leagues to July 1 or later? Makes no sense that the players drafted on July 11 don't get to play until the following season.

Go the the league level for reach rookie league, go into league settings, and you should be able to update the start date or each Rookie League to post draft

It might not make sense--and I thought the same thing--but it is reality.

Go to the various league sites and you'll discover when they start and stop. OOTP gets this correct.

Teams think the kiddies have played a full season in the spring and starting up after the draft is too much.

It is correct, and it makes sense too. High school and college plays feb or march to june. Rookie ball plays half a season as well. Having the season start in july causes the draftees to go from playing half a season to a random full season back to half a season, which can be a bit too much (especially for arms).

Changing to an april start and ending in june-ish allows for draftees to not overwork themselves AND for teams to have one more season of evaluation before cuts need to be made.

Look at how the WNBA works ... college teams play up through the beginning of April, then an early April draft and the WNBA starts practicing immediately. It's a big reason rookies in that league struggle, they have a full season immediately after a full season ... and this year there's the Olympics in the middle so they have a super-compressed full season. It's far from optimal, but there's no good workaround. At least the MLB teams are trying to find a way to ease draftees into the minor league system

This is the first year that it is done this way, I know that for us who simulate decades in OOTP we are used to do the draft and at once to follow our new players that year in R.

We will have to wait what they do IRL, I have read several analysts say that it is likely that some college TOP picks may debut this same year in A, something we can do in OOTP.

But it's obvious that the dynamics are different with HS players, as they would debut in May of the following year.

Still in a month we will see how the real MLB organizations will act.

It's not even really that new of an idea. Teams have been holding out players fresh out the draft for years. It's usually been pitchers for the most part. But teams have been limiting innings especially for college pitchers who throw a ton during their season. Plus it's not like the players drafted will just sit around. They will spend time in their team's dev lab once signed until the fall instructionals begin
