Seattle's Billy Williams

I don't think the dates line up. As you point out, Procopio's Sporting News contract card says he was released to the White Sox on June 29, 1968. The Honolulu Advertiser newspaper of July 11, 1968 reported that the Hawaiian Islanders (AAA affiliate of the White Sox) obtained the contract of veteran outfielder Billy Williams from the Seattle Angels the previous night. Those transactions were separated by almost two weeks.

Jim Procopio was purchased from the Cardinals to fill in when one of their catchers was called to service.

Very difficult to pin down. First, the Seattle team was referred to by the newspapers as the Seattle Angels, not the Pilots. Second, in 1968, the Seattle Angels had two outfielders named Williams -- Billy and Walt "No Neck," so trying to figure this out using box scores only doesn't work. And, HOFer Billy Williams was also playing that year, so searching on "Billy Williams" doesn't narrow things down much. What I did find out was that your Billy Williams was still playing for the Portland Beavers (a Cleveland Indians affiliate) on April 4 and he played for the Seattle Angels on May 17. So the transaction happened some time within that window.

With a little more persistence, I found the answer. As the newspaper clipping below from genealogybank.com shows, Billy Williams was acquired by the Seattle Angels on April 11. As part of that transaction, Sam Parrilla's contract went to the Portland Beavers, but they in turn sent him to Waterbury.

Jp, j.p., j_p...?

Downloaded the picture pack, and the game won't recognize JP Crawford. The file is in the "Players" folder, along with the rest, but it won't show JP. I tried renaming it "JP" (no spaces) "J_P" (like all the "A_J's") and J.P. (both with and without spaces). No luck. Anyone have any suggestions? Can you see JP in your game?

While I'm at it, thanks for all the work you put in gathering these awesome photos and making them available. You guys rock!

Are photos like facegens in that you can also use their Historical Minors ID to tag it to them when naming the file? (Helps keeping this John Smith from that John Smith too)

His name was Bill "Cluster" Williams. The following photo shows him in his hometown of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. It's from a newspaper of Jan. 3, 1968.

Jim Schafer

This is a guess that I've found a photo of the right guy. Here's my logic. Cluster Williams and Jim Schafer participated in several tryout camps for the Pilots in Missouri and Illinois in 1969. One of those was in Carbondale, Illinois. This photo is a 1964 wedding pic of a Jim Schafer from Marion, Illinois, which is about 20 miles from Carbondale. In 1968, Jim Schafer was the manager of a baseball team in Marion. That's the kind of occupation that would make him an ideal candidate to be a scout.

Jim Schafer

JimSchafer was a longtime Royals scout and also was one of the coaches when I went to Dodgertown for the Mickey Owen baseball camps....Have to believe he is in one of the Royals yearbooks from the 80s.....

I think you are referring to Jim Schaffer with two f's (see link below). The request was for a different guy.

This photo shows Ted Fisher at age 71 as a run-down Sicks Stadium celebrated its 40th birthday. The photo is from the Spokane (WA) Spokesman Review of June 17, 1978.
