Scottish Names Files
I don't know if anyone is interested, but I've made up a wee set of names for my solo leagues. It's just the top 100 first names (births circa 1995) and the top 100 surnames, so its probably best used as either a secondary or tertiary name file (while I use it for a full league and its still workable, if you've got too many teams there are a few too many repetitions - while it may be realistic to get 12 Anderson's in a 12 team league, its probably a bit much).
I'm about to finish my English/Irish top-100s as well. If any of you think this will be useful, just post with your e-mail and I'll send it out. |

On a similar note, I have Irish and English name files ready, although I'm not as happy with them. While both the 100 Scottish forenames and surnames are both ranked according to their commonness, only the English surnames are ranked (the first names are all equally weighted) while only the top twenty irish forenames are ranked (surnames equally weighted). While i'm annoyed about the realism, they actually work a little better - less repeated names as you're not swamped with 'Andrew Smith's.
This is pretty simple stuff that anyone with 10 minutes could do, but if you want to save yourself that time, just post me and I'll email them. |

When will you be releasing the set of names from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan? I just like countries that end in "stan"

Well, the scottish name files have been updated. From humble beginnings, there are now around 850 surnames and 60 forenames. Of limited use, but you never know...
Still needs a little work (there are no Mc's, only Mac's) though... |

Right - I'll send them over (once I find them). They are mostly Highland names and thus don't give a really good representation of Scottish surnames (considering the majority of the population are lowlanders), but nonetheless, with little alternative, they'll do.
