Looks like the Rad Sox aren't going to go quietly. In the CBO windows can close quickly, but nice to see them off to a hot start. Still can't believe they missed the postseason last year

Yeah, after the post before last, I was about to reverse my stance and say maybe the Red Rockets do have it in them, but looking at that side of the field I'm thinking if I was to make an early prediction, it'd be the Rad Sox at the end of the road this year. I think I'd like that, so I'll pencil it in as what I'm pulling for, but I'll stop short of making a prediction. When the playoff gets here we'll see who among our favorites, old and new, is in the running too.

Well, well, well. Oberland had an early statement to make about that!

BNN Weekly Report

News from the CBO, Minors, College, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

31 May 2309

CBO Analysis

Now that we are 1/3 of the way through the 2309 season, we can see the patterns that will probably shape the second half of the season. We are approaching the next two months where contenders begin to try to trade for those last few pieces for a championship run. With 42 games down, each association has exactly six teams above .500, with three total teams at .500 still in contention to make a run. The only true surprise in the CBO is Easy Town, last place in the Brotherhood League at 15-27, just three games above the CBO's worst record shared by three teams.

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Oberland T-51s (152.9, +) - The T-51s propelled themselves to the CBO's best record with a 10-game winning streak including a huge Railroad League series win. Oberland swept Jamaica Plain, Vault 81, the Red Rockets again, and then Roxbury to take control in the RL.
2) Starlight Killers (127.3, +) - The Killers still have the NCA's top record and maintain a three-game lead in the Institute League after going 7-3 the past two weeks. Starlight split at Easy Town, swept Concord, split with the Assaultrons again, and then swept the Chemists at Sunshine Tidings.
3) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (126.7, +) - The Party Boys had reasons to party the past two weeks, going 9-1 to take a two-game lead in the Brotherhood League. The Boys swept the Chemists, swept Nahant, split with Bunker Hill, and then swept the Trons.
4) University Point Deathclaws (122.7, ++) - The Deathclaws are another team surging right now, going 8-2 in their last 10 to take a five-game lead in the Minutemen League. The Claws split at the Rad Sox, swept Quincy, swept Diamond City, and then won two at the Gunners.
5) Egret Ninjas (114.4, +) - Despite not being in 2nd place, the Ninjas are 5th in the Power Rankings with a 6-4 mark in their last 10. Egret swept Spectacle Island, won two over the Swatters, split with Goodneghbor, and then won one at Diamond City.
6) Roxbury Rad Sox (111.7, --)
7) Bunker Hill 75ers (111.4, -)
8) County Crossing Bloodbugs (110.1, o)
9) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (103.9, +)
10) The Slog Ghouls (97.3, ++)
11) Spectacle Island Reapers (95.3, +)
12) Vault 81 Dwellers (92.0, ++)
13) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (91.3, --)
14) Nahant Celtics (91.0, o)
15) Salem Witch Hats (89.0, --)
16) Atom Cats (76.1, -)
17) Quincy Gunners (72.1, o)
18) Goodneighbor Hancocks (65.3, +)
19) Diamond City Swatters (61.3, o)
20) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (60.6, -)
21) Easy Town Assaultrons (54.3, o)
22) Concord Radstags (49.4, +)
23) Lexington Synths (49.4, +)
24) FHE Yao Guai (40.4, -)

Brotherhood League

There is a bit of distance in the BL now with Nordhagen Beach and County Crossing battling for 1st while The Slog, Nahant, and Salem battle for 3rd and a possible wildcard spot in the early going.

The Witch Hats are not winning anything like they did a season ago when they seemed to play above their heads during the regular season. Salem is 5th in runs scored (203) and runs allowed (174). There is still a lot to like throughout the roster, including good early seasons by 1B Needham Tickler (.365/15/31), 2B Michael Hoopring (.302/11/26), and RF Brian DeLong (.305/11/24). On the mound, SP Jaa Thirtysix (5-2, 3.31) has been the most productive starter, while rookie P Pokey Chatman (2-0, 0.99, 27.1 IP) may be ready to move into a starting role.

Institute League

Starlight has a slight edge over both Bunker Hill and Sunshine Tidings and a big edge over Fort Hagen, Concord, and Lexington. The 75ers are just a season removed from their championship, but they still look the part that they can compete again. The Chemists need to play better to move out of the 5th spot.

For the Killers, they have never won the IL, though they have reached the playoffs seven times. They have had leads in the league multiple times, including one season where they were the CBO's best team in the first half of the season, and the worst team in the second half to miss the playoffs. This season, Starlight appears to be well put together, including having the top-scoring offense (231 runs) and the 3rd-best mark in runs allowed (160). On offense, a lot of the success is due to 1B Oren Gep (.320/14/48), LF Glenn Higinbotham (.324/12/20), and RF Hurr Lee Reyes (.365/8/31). Pitching records look better than ERA in most cases, but ace SP Digger Vadim (8-1, 2.74) is in early contention for the Vim! Pitcher Award, while CL Sam Molina (13 SV, 1.74) is in contention for the Fallon's Reliever Award.

Minutemen League

University Point has the CBO's largest lead at five games. While Spectacle Island and Jamaica Plain are in playoff contention, the ML is likely to get only two teams in with a strong RL. Quincy, Atom, and Goodneighbor are almost out of the running altogether unless any of them get hot.

For the Deathclaws, they are again one of the top offenses while needing high-scoring games to win. The Claws are 1st in runs scored (251) and 7th in runs allowed (189). Of course, elite hitter 1B Barker Cocoa (.445/19/53), who leads the CBO in 14 of 24 offensive categories and ranks second in two other categories, is having a career season in the first 1/3 of the season. University Point does have some injury concerns, though, including LF Chris Hirshfield (.265/15/53) and RF Tomas Jones (.350/11/37).

Railroad League

Oberland made a statement that it is here to stay atop the RL, including a convincing sweep of Roxbury this past weekend. The T-51s now hold a four-game lead over Roxbury with a five-game lead over Egret.

The Ninjas may or may not stay in contention, but their overall numbers look good, ranking 3rd in runs scored (224) and 1st in runs allowed (155). All four starters have helped in having the best Starters ERA (3.17): Tup Mallory (5-2, 3.39), Max Grove (5-4, 3.01), Admiral Kelm (9-2, 2.80), and Hrye Caje (3-3, 3.58).

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

May 24 - This week he took his hitting to another level. That's why Jumper Hayes of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys was named the North Charles Association Player of the Week.

For the week the 29-year-old second baseman batted .579 (11-for-19) with 3 home runs, 4 runs and 7 RBIs.

This year Hayes has hit 4 home runs and posted a .282 batting average.

The top batter in the South Charles Association last week was Ben Pettinato, who batted .450 and towered above everybody with a 5-game hitting barrage.

During the week Pettinato banged out a .450 batting average (9-for-20), 3 home runs, 7 RBI and scored 4 runs.

Today the Quincy third baseman received the SCA Player of the Week Award.

So far this season Pettinato is batting .289 with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He has 44 hits in 152 at-bats, 11 walks and a .341 OBP. Pettinato has played in 37 games.

May 31 - His solid numbers speak for themselves. That's why Dusty Brownell of the Sunshine Tidings Chemists was named the North Charles Association Player of the Week.

For the week Brownell batted .421 (8-for-19) with 3 home runs and 4 RBIs.

A look at his season totals shows Brownell with 16 home runs, .304 BA, .402 OBP, 29 RBIs and 34 runs scored.

It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Missile Crews, the Goodneighbor Hancocks 20-year-old center fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He ripped 10 hits in 21 at-bats, compiling a .476 average with 4 home runs and 7 RBIs.

This season Crews has delivered 60 hits in 163 at-bats for a .368 average with 11 home runs. He is getting on base at a .452 clip and his totals also include 29 RBIs and 37 runs scored. This year Crews has played in 42 games.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 June 2309

June Super Post

CBO Players of the Month

Top Hitting Performance - The top hitting performance in the CBO came on May 7 when University Point's 1B Barker Cocoa went 3 for 3 with a double, two home runs, two walks, scored four runs, and drove in six against Goodneighbor.

Top Pitching Performance - SP Sheng Kawolski had the month's and the season's top pitching performance on May 29 when he held Egret to just two hits in 9.0 innings, walking one and striking out 12 in the Diamond City victory.

NCA Hitting - Dusty Brownell battered North Charles Association pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Brownell told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 22 games, Brownell hit .398 with 11 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

So far this year Brownell has 16 home runs and a .304 batting average.

SCA Hitting - To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Barker Cocoa. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as University Point's first baseman pinned down the South Charles Association Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .506 in May collecting 13 home runs, 34 RBIs and 31 runs scored.

In 42 games this season Cocoa has compiled a .445 batting average with 65 hits and 19 home runs. He has also scored 51 times and knocked in 53 runs.

NCA Pitcher - Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 5-0 with a 2.09 ERA, Beachboy Nut was selected as May's North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Nordhagen Beach starter as he left the clubhouse.

"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."

Beachboy Nut definitely contributed to the club. He had 5 starts, throwing 43 innings, striking out 29, and holding the opposition to a .219 average.

So far in 10 appearances this season, Nut has recorded 7 wins and sustained 1 loss. He has pitched 81 innings, yielded 62 hits, fanned 57 and has a 1.89 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - The best pitcher this past month in the South Charles Association was Admiral Kelm of the Egret Ninjas. He really razzle-dazzled league hitters, finishing May with a standout 5-1 record and 2.39 ERA.

The Ninjas hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 34 hits in 49 innings. He struck out 34 and walked 16.

Kelm has made 11 starts so far this year and put up a 9-2 won-lost record with a 2.80 ERA. In 86.2 innings he has allowed 65 hits, walked 38 and struck out 57.

NCA Rookie - Kilometers Davis is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest North Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the The Slog hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .284 average with 25 hits, 4 home runs and 16 RBIs.

Davis is presently hitting at a .346 pace with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs. He has played in 42 games and scored 31 times.

SCA Rookie - Steve Mirv's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Goodneighbor first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month.

During the month he hit .240 with 3 doubles, no triples and 3 home runs. Mirv also scored 12 times and drove in 16 runs.

Mirv is currently hitting at a .243 pace with 6 home runs and 28 RBIs.

MML Analysis

Forty games into the season, and most teams have some semblance of life as their top players also hope for a call up to the CBO. Divisional leaders are Abernathy, Everett, Providence, and Warwick.

1B Justin Loki of Pleasant Lake (CC) had an outstanding game on May 12 against Natick. Loki was 4 for 6 with four home runs, four runs, and nine RBI. The four home runs and nine RBI ties him with four other players for the Massachusetts Minor League Record. On the season, Loki is batting .316 with 26 home runs and 53 RBI in 40 games.

SP Jake Campbell of the Foxborough Minutemen (Good) also had an outstanding performance on May 5 against Brookline. He threw a complete-game three-hitter, walking one and striking out 12 in the contest. Campbell is 2-3 on the year in five starts with a 4.09 ERA. He was drafted by the Hancocks in the 6th round of the 2301 draft.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - Bo McBean of the Danvers Sonics recorded a .404 batting average in May. His hitting spree racked up the Legends League Batter of the Month award for his trophy case.

The Danvers shortstop battered opposing pitchers all month, accumulating 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and scoring 24 runs.

This season McBean has hit at a .360 clip with 28 RBIs, 8 home runs and 35 runs scored. He has played in 40 games.

SL Hitter - It was a successful month for Gee Force of Wellesley. He won the Stars League Best Batter Trophy for May.

Force batted .500, hit 8 home runs, drove in 20 runs, scored 22 times and compiled a .571 on-base percentage.

Looking at his season stats, Force has compiled a .500 batting average and a .571 on-base percentage, while hitting 8 home runs and driving in 20 runs.

LL Pitcher - When Cameron Wellman takes the hill, chances are good for a Abernathy victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and 4.19 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 38.2 innings, fanned 26 and held others clubs to a .253 average.

That's why the Adamantium star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Legends League.

Over the season Wellman has thrown 67 innings and dished out 49 strikeouts with a 7-3 mark and a 6.04 ERA.

SL Pitcher - The Pitcher of the Month Award has been announced and the Stars League winner is Sandwich hurler, Van Funky. For his standout performances in May he has been named the league's best pitcher.

During the month, Funky excelled with a 1.17 ERA and 3 wins and no losses. In 30.2 innings he struck out 24 and gave up 27 hits and 13 walks.

In the current season in 8 starts, Van Funky has a record of 5-1 with 48 strikeouts in 55.1 innings and a 2.93 ERA.

BMU Analysis

Teams have played 27 games, so leagues are still tight with 10 games equaling the largest deficit in any one league. League leaders are the Brockton Irish and Tenpines Bluff Manta Men; Mystic Pines Raybathers; Neponset Park Criticals; and Forest Grove Pugilists and CGP Demolition.

The top hitting performance in May was by Covenant's (V81) C Hax Kim. Kim went 3 for 5 with three home runs, a walk, three runs, and nine RBI on May 15 versus Outpost Zimonja. In 26 games, Kim, who was recently promoted to the MML's Everett Mutant Hounds, batted .333 with 13 home runs and 28 RBI.

The best pitching performance of both the month and season came just six days ago when Mike Sernandez of Taffington Boathouse (Egr ) pitched 9.0 inning, allowing one unearned run and four hits while walking four and striking out 13 in a 5-1 win over Covenant. He also went 1 for 2 in the game with a double, a walk, a sacrifice bunt, and two RBI. On the season, Sernandez is 3-2 with a 5.06 ERA in six starts.

BMU Players of the Month

CA Hitter - Shoe Kiesel may be much younger than other hitters in the Commonwealth Association, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in May to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 22-year-old Brockton first baseman hit .333 with 11 home runs, 22 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

MA Hitter - Weston DeGurlz has a lot going for him. The Hull right fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Massachusetts Association has just picked him as its top hitter for May.

In 18 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .411 with 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

CA Pitcher - May's premier pitcher was Pizza Castellanata of Mystic Pines Raybathers. He pulverized Commonwealth Association hitters all month long and picked up the Pitcher of the Month award. The Raybathers star hurler fashioned a 4-0 record en route to the honor.

He had 24 strikeouts in 32 innings and compiled a 2.81 ERA. Other clubs hit .244 against him.

MA Pitcher - When Waxer Lucatero takes the hill, he's a good bet to nail down the victory for the Neponset Park Criticals. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 1.73 ERA in 5 starts. In 36.1 innings, he fanned 29 and walked 8.
That's why he was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Massachusetts Association.

GBRL Analysis

The GBRL follows the same season schedule as the BMU, so they have also only played 27 games thus far. Current division leaders are the Lynn Woods Bloatflies, Nuka Express Chrono Cowboys, Park Street AntAgonizers, and Pioneer Park Hackers.

The top hitting performance tied the top performance score from April. On May 22, C Taron Malicos of Revere Beach (Nah) was 4 for 4 with a double, a home run, a walk, two runs, and six RBI in his team's 11-5 win over Parsons Asylum. Malicos is batting .179 on the season with two home runs and 15 RBI.

SP Hermaeus Mora of Breakheart Banks (ST) has the top pitching performance on May 1 with a complete-game two-hitter over Walden Pond. In the game, Mora walked two and struck out nine for the best pitching performance on the season. Mora is 3-4 with a 3.69 ERA in seven starts.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - Not known for his offensive prowess, Mim Fist set the league afire in May and took home the North League Batter of the Month award.

The Med-Tek center fielder posted a steady .400 batting average, 4 home runs, 13 RBIs and 21 runs.

SL Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, Eli Durus certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the SL Batter of the Month award for May.

The 18-year-old left fielder for the Pioneer Park Hackers hit .344 with 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

NL Pitcher - This month when the Corvega manager wrote the name "Bacon" on the lineup card, he was confident that he would get a good start out of him. Outing after outing in May Bolt Bacon took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 2-1 mark and 1.23 ERA in 4 starts, piling up 29.1 innings and 31 strikeouts and holding opposing teams to a .184 average.

For his superb performance Bacon was named the North League Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

SL Pitcher - In May, when the name of Sean Greentop appeared on the Pioneer Park lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 5 times and chalked up 5 wins and no losses. With those stats it was also a virtual lock that he would be named the South League Pitcher of the Month.

Greentop shackled opposing batters on 32 base hits and a .201 batting average. He rang up 46 strikeouts in 44 innings of work, surrendered 12 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.45 ERA.

BCAC Analysis

As we approach the midway point of the second BCAC season, four teams seem to be in the race for division titles, though one division has two more teams who have lots of time to get back in it. Teams have played 40 of their scheduled 86 games. Division leaders are the Harvard Crimson with a two-game lead over Tufts in the North and a tie in the South between Commonwealth and Mass Bay.

RF Muss Keentard of Bunker Hill had the best-hitting performance in May. On May 21, Keentard went 3 for 4 with two home runs, three runs, and six RBI to lead the Globalists over CIT. Keentard is batting .339 with six home runs and 21 RBI on the season.

Frank Heart of Mass Bay had the best pitching performance in May on May 16 versus Northeastern. Heart pitched a complete game, allowing four hits, walking one, and striking out 16. He was only outpaced by teammate Freon McMahan's April top performance when McMahan broke his own BCAC record with 15 strikeouts. The previous record was 11. On the season, Heart is 5-3 with a 4.07 ERA for the Beacons, which are 1st in most pitching categories, including runs allowed (186).

BCAC Players of the Month

BCAC Hitter - The Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference has given Mix Higgins the Batter of the Month Award.

In May, the Commonwealth University first baseman starred with a .421 batting average, 7 home runs and 24 RBIs. Higgins also had 7 walks, posted a .482 on-base percentage and scored 18 times.

In his season totals Higgins has 9 home runs and a .411 batting average.

BCAC Pitcher - The Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference hitters didn't have a chance in May when the Harvard Crimson manager wrote "Babbage" on the lineup card. Outing after outing, Em Babbage held teams in check and usually got a win.

He excelled with a 6-0 mark and 3.23 ERA in 7 starts. The talented Crimson star pitched 53 innings, fanned 42 and held opposing teams to a .277 average.

For his superb mound work Babbage was named the BCAC Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This year in 12 starts, Babbage has recorded 7 wins and absorbed 1 loss. He has pitched 78 innings, allowed 94 hits, struck out 63 and has a 4.38 ERA.

CYL Analysis

There are only 11 games remaining on the season, so the playoff outlook has become much clearer. Only one team, Beantown, has clinched a playoff spot to go along with a Magic # of 2 for winning the Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Divisional leaders and records are:

Franklin - Needham Radstorm 38-24-2
Emerson - Beantown Sprouts 52-13
Fuller - South Charles Bank Moonies 43-19-2
Revere - Lynn Pier Gamers 37-26-1
Adams - Brown Bubblers 38-26-1
Alcott - Thompson Heights Earthlings 41-22-1
Morse - Taunton Giants 45-19
Attucks - Truro Hatchlings 37-25-2

LF Christopher Powerarm, Sr, North Charles Bank had the month's top performance on May 11 against Littleton. Powerarm was 4 for 4 with three home runs, four runs, and eight RBI. On the season, Powerarm is batting .244 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI.

On May 26, Sudbury SP/RP Flint Feraltracker had a memorable game in a victory over Danvers. In a 10-inning performance, Feraltracker threw a no-hitter, walking two and striking out nine in the 1-0, 10-inning victory. Feraltracker has started three games and made 20 appearances on the season for the Celebs, going 2-2 with a 3.48 ERA.

As a note, one day later, Sandwich's sophomore SP/RP Dosko Grasshopper also threw a no-hitter against Jamaica Plain in his only start on the season.

CYL Players of the Month

NR Hitter - Aaron Wright is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Beantown center fielder joined that select company when the North Region announced the results of May's voting.

Wright totaled 39 hits, 16 walks, 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and 24 runs scored last month to put together a .424 batting average and .509 on-base percentage.

Wright is hitting .335 for the season with 17 home runs, 52 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 82 hits in 245 at-bats and played in 65 games.

SR Hitter - At only 16 years of age, Cocky Collins could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Eastham Rads, as May was one to remember for the first baseman and he has captured the South Region Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .368 with 12 home runs, 26 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

For the year Collins is batting .276 with 18 home runs, 45 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

NR Pitcher - Alex Language dazzled opponents on his way to the North Region Pitcher of the Month award for May.

Posting a 6-0 record and a 0.53 ERA, the Beantown Sprouts starter held opposing hitters to a .144 batting average while striking out 59 in 50.2 innings and giving up 15 walks.

For the year Language has compiled a 14-0 record with a 1.38 ERA.

SR Pitcher - The hottest hurler in the South Region last month was Jazz Delgado of the Pawtucket Paw Sox. He caught the attention of everybody in the league with some eye-catching stats, good enough to win the SR Pitcher of the Month.

In May, Delgado starred with an impressive 5-0 record. In 6 starts he gave up 29 base hits and struck out 39 in 45 innings with a 1.00 ERA.

This year Delgado has a 10-2 record with a 2.01 ERA.

Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL, APL, NWLR, and BBL Leagues

by Evan Guy

1 June 2309

Victory, Dark Earn Early Leads

Some teams have played 24 games, and others have played 25. In the 90-game season, there is still a lot of season to go. Let us take a look at what is happening in the NWL, the minors, and the youth league as we move into the month of June.

In the NWL, both the Cave Crickets and Bloodworms have divisional leads early, with two teams--Wild and Quartz--struggling to win games.

Victory at 16-8 is 1st in the NWL with 147 runs scored and 7th in runs against (138). Many of their games come down to which teams hits more, which is usually the Cave Crickets. 2B Due Crymes (.462/1/12) leads the NWL in average, WAR, at-bats, hits, and triples. Other top hitters include 3B Jesse Saloum (.398/2/13), LF Edgar Virus (.396/4/19), and RF Mike Munchkin (.382/3/19).

Dark has been the opposite in their success, currently last in runs scored (97) but 2nd in runs allowed (88). While they do have one player batting over .400, LF Denn Verr (.406/1/11), the team is hitting only .297 overall. The most successful starting pitcher so far has been Bighair Harrington (4-0, 2.57) along with help from SPs Franklin William Kidd (2-1, 3.79) and Josh Reliford (2-1, 3.09) for the 2nd-best Starters ERA (3.59) in the league.

When Due Crymes stepped up to the plate in May he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the Nuka World League Batter of the Month award.

The young Victory second baseman posted a .462 batting average with 1 home run, 12 RBIs and scored 26 runs. Crymes also worked pitchers for 2 walks to post a .471 on-base percentage.

The Nuka World League scribes have selected May's Pitcher of the Month and have awarded the honor to Steven Nebraska of Grape. He was outstanding on the hill last month and has the numbers to prove it -- a 4-2 record.

The Painted Ghouls star performer made 7 starts with a 1.86 ERA and surrendered 46 hits in 58 innings. He struck out 42 and walked 8.

Rich Texan earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Nuka World League for last month's performance. The boyish Orange shortstop might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Texan hit .290 with 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 10 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

In the Amusement Park League, the Safari Adventure Gazelles and Dry Rock Gulch Convicts are the leaders.

Petit Frenchman put together a good May to earn the Amusement Park League Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Bradberton officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Disciples right fielder posted a .423 batting average with 12 home runs, 30 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

Urb Meyer doesn't think about his career all that much. He doesn't fixate on yesterday and he doesn't worry about next season -- he has learned to worry only about today.
That attitude, coupled with no saves in 6 relief appearances netted the 28-year-old reliever May's Amusement Park League Pitcher of the Month trophy earlier today.

The Nuka Town reliever pitched 23.1 innings, struck out 23 and walked 7 on the way to a 3-0 mark and a 1.54 ERA.

There are two divisional ties in the NWLRL. In the North Bradberton, the Nuka Jolly Elves and Wixon Cola Kings are both 17-12. In the South Bradberton, the Junkyard Space Cadets and Nuka Plant Electrics are knotted up at 15-14.

Hot-hitting first baseman Clyde Rawhide of the Electrics really pounded NWL Rookie League pitchers in May, winning the Batter of the Month award.

He hit .374 with 8 home runs, 27 RBIs, 19 runs scored and 15 walks to finish with a .462 on-base percentage.

May was a magical month for Cameron White of Red Rocket. He held the NWL Rookie League hitters spellbound, conjuring up a 3-1 mark and a 2.15 ERA.

White also chalked up 7 starts, 37.2 innings and 39 strikeouts.

For this outstanding performance he was rewarded with the Pitcher of the Month trophy.

There are just two weeks remaining in the Bradberton Boys League, now expanded to 16 teams. In the West Division, the Wixon Shovels have a one-game lead over both the Starport Nuka Hubologists and Mad Mulligan Travelers. In the East Division, the Holyoke Mech Dragons have a three-game over the Hadley Falls Reactors, which have won 10 straight.

Commodore Kaestner made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Bradberton Boys League this past month.

The South Bradberton Tycoons left fielder shined through the month of May and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 17-year-old hit .317 with 12 home runs, 29 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Palevius Lex certainly found a groove in May. The King Cola starter posted 5 wins last month to easily claim the Bradberton Boys League Pitcher of the Month.

During the month Lex was 5-0 with a 0.50 ERA. He made 7 starts, tossed 36 innings and had 33 strikeouts.

Vim! View

Veracious, Vivacious, Vainglorious Vision of the Vim! Leagues

by Vikky Vail

1 June 2309

Eden Meadows, Far Harbor Control Divisions in Vim! League

After our first month of play, both the Eden Meadows Anglers and Far Harbor Ghoul Whales have gained early control of the Fog and Harbor divisions, respectively.

The Anglers, which have never won the Fog Division, thus never made the playoffs, are 1.5 games up on Dalton Farm. Eden Meadows is 4th in runs scored (119) and 2nd in runs allowed (110). Team leaders in hitting include 3B Hawk Callaway (.400/0/12), 1B Kaden Ellison (.400/1/9), and LF Gyro Olly (.290/5/20). Their top pitcher is ace SP Steady Mike Holmes (4-2, 2.91).

Far Harbor, the champions of the NWL's inaugural season in 2301 and four-time Harbor Division champions, lead by an impressive seven games over Acadia. First in both runs scored (156) and runs allowed (95), the 18-6 Ghoul Whales have dominated so far in 2309. Three top hitters are 2B Jarod Sebiess (.415/8/29), RF Oppo Rancisis (.370/4/16), and LF Putt Putt Moreno (.418/1/7).

Grand Hotel Atoms fans believe they've got a talented young star in Gladder Questseeker.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in May, as he hit .398 with 11 home runs, 30 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

The end result was the first baseman being named the Vim! League Batter of the Month.

Steady Mike Holmes of the Eden Meadows Anglers outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 4-2 won-lost mark and 2.91 ERA in 7 starts to get the Vim! League Pitcher of the Month honors.

Holmes had a very impressive May, finishing with 36 strikeouts in 58.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .284 average.

Eden Meadows's Dex Labb collected 29 hits to snare the Vim! League Rookie of the Month for May.

He batted .315 with 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

The 20-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

The MDIL divisions are led by the Nucleus Radchickens and Eagle's Cover Harpooners.

Even though he is a newcomer to Mount Desert Island League, Vince Eller put up some good numbers in May and earned the MDIL Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Oceanarium's offensive leaders with a .385 average in 23 games. He also racked up 18 home runs, 32 RBIs, and 22 runs scored.

The Mount Desert Island League Pitcher of the Month honor has been given to Jeff Crawler of Brooke's Head for a superlative month.

"I actually never wanted to be a pitcher," Crawler told reporters when asked who he credits for his pitching ability. "I was an outfielder until high school and on the third day of tryouts my coach came up and said, 'Son you couldn't hit a lick even if we put it on a tee for ya.' Well, that ticked me off, so I decided if I couldn't hit I wanted to make sure no one else could either and so here I am."

It all turned out for the best as the Brooke's Head starter notched a 4-1 record with a 2.63 ERA last month. He made 5 starts and struck out 29 in 41 innings.

In the Vim! Rookie League, the Vim Factory Pops and Huntress Island Ug-Qualtoths are division leaders.

Kitteredge's Purl Jamme had a productive May and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the VIM! Rookie League.

The 19-year-old first baseman stood out at the plate with a .383 batting average, 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and 31 runs scored.

Clooky Liatti was firing on all cylinders in the month of May with 4 wins as he steamrolled all VIM! Rookie League opposition on his way to the Pitcher of the Month award.

During the month Liatti was 4-1 with a 4.05 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 33.1 innings and had 29 strikeouts.

The Maine Youth Leagues season is winding down. In the Mount Desert Island Four, the Beaver Creek Bowlers have a five-game lead. In the Great Diamond Island League, the Sunset Park Anglers and Echo Point Glowers are tied.

Cliff's Edge Wolves fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in May.

Kyle Keitt put up a remarkable month at the age of 15 and has been named the Mount Desert Island Four Batter of the Month.

For the month, Keitt hit .264 with 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 17 Ziggy Zombiekiller has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Sunset Park Anglers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the Great Diamond Island League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .286 average with 9 home runs, 30 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

In May, Hawk Dawson tore through the Mount Desert Island Four like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 16 years old.

The young Cliff's Edge starter posted a 4-0 mark and an ERA of 2.84 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 44.1 innings he collected 52 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .205 average.

Fumblefoot Appling took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Great Diamond Island League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 16-year-old Fort Knights starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 3-1 won-lost record in 7 starts. This month he fanned 55 batters in 47.2 innings and compiled a 1.70 ERA.

BNN Weekly Report

News from the CBO, Minors, College, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

14 June 2309

CBO Analysis

We have not hit the 50-game mark of the 2309 season, so our next update will be past the halfway point. One league flip-flopped the top two teams, while another league suddenly got a lot more interesting. The Railroad League is the league with the largest league leader amount: three games. This season is delivering. Let's take a look now at the new Power Rankings.

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) County Crossing Bloodbugs (128.7, +) - Taking over the NCA's top record and tied for a CBO-best 9-1 mark in their last 10, the Bloodbugs premier at #1 this week. The Bugs swept Sunshine Tidings and The Slog, split with Starlight, and then swept Nordhagen Beach to take over 1st place after entering the series down by a game.
2) Oberland T-51s (123.6, -) - Still in possession of the CBO's top record, the T-51s fell a spot due to a 5-5 stretch. Oberland split with University Point, won two over Vault 81, got swept at Jamaica Plain, and then won two at FHE.
3) Egret Ninjas (117.2, +) - Now in 2nd place in the RL and in a tie for the CBO's third-best record, the Ninjas move up after going an RL-best 7-3 in their last 10. Egret swept the Red Rockets, won two over the Yao Guai, split at Quincy, and then won two at the Dwellers.
4) Starlight Killers (113.2, ++) - They lead the Institute League and jump up despite a 4-6 stretch in their last 10, but the Killers have been killing it this season. In the past two weeks, Starlight was swept by the Boys, won one at Concord, split with the Bugs, and then won two over Bunker Hill.
5) Roxbury Rad Sox (109.8, ++) - The Rad Sox are the third RL team in the Top 5 after going 5-5 in their last 10 to keep on pace with Oberland. The Sox were swept by the Gunners, won two over the Swatters, split with the Claws, and then won two at Diamond City.
6) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (109.4, ++)
7) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (106.8, --)
8) Bunker Hill 75ers (106.3, -)
9) Quincy Gunners (105.5, o)
10) University Point Deathclaws (101.3, --)
11) Spectacle Island Reapers (100.9, -)
12) Nahant Celtics (96.5, ++)
13) Salem Witch Hats (96.5, o)
14) The Slog Ghouls (92.5, o)
15) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (87.5, --)
16) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (81.2, +)
17) Vault 81 Dwellers (80.1, --)
18) Diamond City Swatters (64.8, o)
19) Easy Town Assaultrons (62.8, +)
20) Atom Cats (60.2, +)
21) FHE Yao Guai (59.8, ++)
22) Goodneighbor Hancocks (56.3, --)
23) Concord Radstags (55.4, -)
24) Lexington Synths (43.9, -)

Brotherhood League

As mentioned, County Crossing took control with their home sweep of Nordhagen Beach. Both teams are currently a tier ahead of the next three teams all tied for third place at 27-25. Then there is Easy Town falling further and further back in the standings each update.

For the Bloodbugs, the statistical outputs suggest they are playing above their level: 7th in runs scored (247) and t-2nd in runs allowed (200). One concern has been injuries, but a healthy team could go all the way in the playoffs. The Bugs are currently without SP College Luckyman (4-3, 2.51) who is probably out for the season and 1B Zeldolph Violet (.231/0/4) who has been out for most of the season but could return by late July or early August.

Institute League

Starlight still controls this league, though Bunker Hill has made some progress. Sunshine Tidings has been hot and cold, and now the Chemists are in a four-way tie for the 5th playoff spot with three BL teams.

The 75ers, similar to the Bugs, have statistics that do not support their record. In their case, though, Bunker Hill should have a better record than they currently do with the 2nd-best scoring offense (271 runs) and the best scoring defense (199). All four starters--Jason Tonelli (5-6, 3.91), Max Thunderdome (7-3, 2.70), Corey Ware (3-3, 3.39), and Hangman Alley (4-1, 2.86)--have ERAs below 4.00 for the team with the Best Starters ERA (3.14). If they continue that production, the 75ers will be tough to beat down the stretch.

Minutemen League

University Point has gotten cold, including getting swept by Jamaica Plain last weekend. On the other hand, all of the Red Rockets, Spectacle Island, and Quincy are suddenly hot, making the ML a four-game difference between 1st and 4th place. Atom and Goodneighbor are both out of the mix.

Spectacle Island appeared to be falling out of the race, but now they are right back in contention. The Reapers are 6th in runs scored (260) and tied for 5th in runs allowed (235) but they do have the SCA's best Bullpen ERA (3.37). RP Ghost Kyudalson (3-0, 0.00) has certainly helped that ERA with some additional help from RP Gary Stallworth (0-2, 2.86). 1B Homestay Lovetap (.289/18/35) continues to bomb home runs, trailing only University Point's Barker Cocoa (23) and Jamaica Plain's Ken Debate (20) in the SCA.

Railroad League

Only one team, Egret, had a winning record the past two weeks, allowing the Ninjas to surpass Roxbury and trail Oberland by just three games, the largest league lead in the CBO. Vault 81 seems to have mailed in their prospects for a playoff run in 2309, trailing by 12 games for first place and eight for third place.

Like Bunker Hill, Oberland is looking to return to the Sole Survivor Series and may be the favorite to win it all. The T-51s are not dominating the association, though, currently 3rd in both runs scored (285) and runs allowed (223). RF Orcin Cardinal (.300/18/40) and SP Mesquite Williams (7-3, 2.71) continue to have impressive seasons, giving their team a boost.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

June 7 - Brian DeLong of the Witch Hats relied on a sharp eye and a quick bat to outpace all other North Charles Association hitters last week and collect the Player of the Week Award.

He hit .500 with 11 hits in 22 at-bats, 3 home runs and 9 RBIs.

In 47 games this season DeLong is batting .330 with 58 hits and 14 home runs. He has scored 25 runs and driven in 33.

Baywatch Fischler stepped up to the plate in a big way last week and today he took home the South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The Quincy right fielder ripped opposing pitchers for 12 hits in 24 at-bats and 3 home runs. He put together a sizzling .500 batting average as he knocked in 10 runs and scored 8 times.

This year Fischler is hitting .345, produced 35 RBIs and 11 home runs, scored 38 times and gotten on base at a .436 rate.

June 14 - 19-year-old Duff Fee sent shock waves through Commonwealth Baseball Organization last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Fee made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .565 average, 13 hits in 23 at-bats, 3 home runs and 6 runs batted in.

Where the Concord Radstags center fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Fee certainly made his mark last week.

Thus far this year Fee is hitting .284 with 11 home runs, 28 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Roxbury sports fans can't stop singing the praises of Donn Mattingley, who has been selected the South Charles Association Player of the Week.

Mattingley was in a comfort zone all week, finishing with a .474 average (9-for-19), 7 RBIs and 5 home runs.

This season Mattingley has banged out 68 hits in 207 at-bats for a .329 average with 15 home runs. He is getting on base at a .444 pace and his totals also include 34 RBIs and 45 runs scored.

I don't know, I feel like if I cursed the Boys there'd be real bad blood haha, I think there might still be too much attachment there even though I was never as enthralled as the rest.

BNN Weekly Report

News from the CBO, Minors, College, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

28 June 2309

CBO Analysis

We have surpassed the midway point of the 120-game season, and there are three teams with 40+ wins in the league and six with 40+ losses. If the playoffs would start today, these would be the seedings:

NCA
1. Starlight (wins tiebreaker due to a 3-1 series advantage over the Bugs)
2. County Crossing
3. Nordhagen Beach
4. Bunker Hill
5. Sunshine Tidings

SCA
1. Oberland
2. University Point
3. Roxbury
4. Jamaica Plain
5. Egret

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Oberland T-51s (136.7, o) - Now with a three-game lead for the CBO's top record, the T-51s take over the #1 spot this week with an 8-2 stretch. Oberland split at Quincy, swept FHE, split with Spectacle Island, and then swept Diamond City.
2) Starlight Killers (131.0, +) - The Killers are now tied for the NCA's top record after an 8-2 mark, including a current six-game winning streak. Starlight swept Easy Town, lost tow of three at Fort Hagen, swept the Assaultrons again, and then swept the Silver Shroud.
3) County Crossing Bloodbugs (125.0, -) - The Bloodbugs went 7-3, but they are now tied for the NCA's top record. The Bugs swept Sunshine Tidings, won two at Nordhagen Beach, split at Concord, and then won two of three over The Slog.
4) University Point Deathclaws (118.2, o) - Atop the Minutemen League and 8-2 in their last 10, the Deathclaws hold the SCA's 2nd-best record. University Point split with Roxbury, swept the Gunners, swept the Swatters, and won two at the Reapers.
5) Roxbury Rad Sox (116.3, +) - The Rad Sox complete the Top 5 after going 6-4 in their last 10 to give them the CBO's 5th-beast record. The Sox split with the Claws, won one versus Vault 81, split with Goodneighbor, and then swept the Dwellers.
6) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (106.7, ++)
7) Egret Ninjas (106.4, -)
8) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (103.5, +)
9) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (102.6, -)
10) Spectacle Island Reapers (96.8, o)
11) Bunker Hill 75ers (96.6, --)
12) Quincy Gunners (93.9, ++)
13) Salem Witch Hats (91.9, -)
14) Nahant Celtics (91.0, ++)
15) The Slog Ghouls (90.9, -)
16) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (80.3, -)
17) Atom Cats (78.5, +)
18) Vault 81 Dwellers (76.3, -)
19) Goodneighbor Hancocks (60.9, +)
20) Easy Town Assaultrons (54.9, -)
21) Concord Radstags (53.2, ++)
22) Lexington Synths (51.2, o)
23) Diamond City Swatters (50.0, --)
24) FHE Yao Guai (48.2, -)

Brotherhood League

County Crossing has created some distance thanks to a 5-1 series advantage over Nordhagen Beach in the last few weeks. Meanwhile, The Slog, Salem, and Nahant are all clustered together hoping that they each could break out and work their way into a playoff spot.

For the Party Boys, we are wondering when the proverbial bubble will pop for them. CBO champions just two seasons ago, the Boys appear to be a team that should be on the downswing due to their aging roster. But they keep winning. Currently, though, Nordhagen Beach seems to be winning despite their statistical outputs. The Boys are 8th in runs scored (282) and 4th in runs allowed (251). Currently injured LF Young Goodman (.354/14/44) is the only player hitting above of .300 and only one of three with 10+ home runs: Jonathan Angelou (18) and Maxx Murtagh (12). That has led the Party Boys to call up prospect LF Gorgeous DiGiacomo to add a little pop to the batting lineup. On the mound, SP Beachboy Nut (10-2, 2.29) is almost always a sure win. For the other starters, though, they have struggled, with SP Ugio Church (5-4, 4.16) having the next-best ERA.

Institute League

With Bunker Hill getting swept by Sunshine Tidings, Starlight now has some distance in their IL lead and now the 75ers and Chemists are clustered. Fort Hagen is having respectable season, but they are not expected to compete.

With a 7-3 mark in their past 10, Sunshine Tidings seems to be getting hot and looking to turn around their 2309 season to be competitive again. They still need better statistical output, currently 5th in runs scored (306) and 8th in runs allowed (285). They are a pretty good power-hitting team, currently 3rd in home runs (97) with five players in double digits. 1B Dusty Brownell (.288/23/44) leads the team in home runs, and RF Baktu DaWell (.314/19/39) is the overall best hitter on the team. For pitchers, SP Mike Rubric (8-4, 3.27) has been much better than ace SP Eugene Gym (7-5, 4.78).

Minutemen League

University Point is leading in what may be the strongest league overall. Jamaica Plain, Spectacle Island, and Quincy all have the potential to be playoff teams.

The Red Rockets are in 2nd place and seem to be the team most likely to be ahead of the other teams outside of University Point in the end. The Rockets need to improve their offense, though, currently 7th in runs scored (296). LF Ken Debate (.327/25/60) has been most of their offense and is one of only two players--the other being CF Hid Matsumoto (.203/11/32)--with 10 home runs.

Railroad League

Oberland has a large lead at six games, and Roxbury and Egret are far ahead of the rest of the league. Vault 81 could be competitive in the second half of the season, but they had better start winning at a .700 or better clip to get there.

Despite getting pushed down by the T-51s, the Rad Sox are again a formidable team. They are 2nd in runs scored (343) and 4th in runs allowed (281). They are no longer a dominant pitching team, but ace Nuka Laloosh (8-4, 3.00) can dominate at any time. However, the rest of the starting staff has been pretty bad, with all three holding ERAs above 5.00.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

June 21 - The votes have been tallied and the winner of the North Charles Association Player of the Week has been named. It was awarded earlier today to Hurr Lee Reyes for his great week at the plate.

The Starlight right fielder took home the trophy by banging out 9 hits in 20 at-bats for a .450 batting average, driving in 9 runs and scoring 6 times.

So far this season Reyes is batting .386 with 11 home runs, 44 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 90 hits in 233 at-bats, 36 walks and a .467 OBP. Reyes has played in 57 games.

When it came to hitting the baseball, Austin Engill was in a class by himself in the South Charles Association this past week. Nobody did it better.

The outstanding shortstop for University Point tagged opposing pitchers for a .474 average and was voted the Player of the Week Award. Included in his stats were 9 hits in 19 at-bats, 4 homers, 7 runs scored and 11 RBIs.

This year Engill is batting .239 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs.

June 28 - When it came to hitting the baseball, Oren Gep was in a class by himself in the North Charles Association this past week. Nobody did it better.

The outstanding first baseman for Starlight tagged opposing pitchers for a .450 average and was voted the Player of the Week Award. Included in his stats were 9 hits in 20 at-bats, 4 homers, 7 runs scored and 12 RBIs.

So far this year Gep has hit .313 with 22 home runs, 74 RBIs and 51 runs scored.

His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Barker Cocoa was rewarded with the South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy University Point Deathclaws first baseman hit .562 while collecting 9 hits in 16 at-bats, 4 home runs and 10 RBIs.

So far this season Cocoa is batting .449 with 29 home runs.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 July 2309

July Super Post

CBO Players of the Month

Top Hitting Performance - Fourteen-year vet, Atom's 3B Shane Stabb, put out the top hitting performance in June. On June 8 against Diamond City, Stabb went 5 for 5 with a home run, a walk, five runs, and four RBI. The five runs scored tied an SCA record.

Top Pitching Performance - SP Beachboy Nut of Nordhagen Beach had the most outstanding pitching performance in June, throwing a complete-game four-hitter on June 8 against Sunshine Tidings. Nut walked one and struck out 12, matching Diamond City's Sheng Kawolski for the top strikeout performance in the 2309 season.

NCA Hitter - Brian DeLong may be much younger than other hitters in the North Charles Association, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in June to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 24-year-old Salem right fielder hit .457 with 10 home runs, 21 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

DeLong is hitting .357 this year with 21 home runs and 45 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .472, 50 walks and scored 46 times.

SCA Hitter - When guys like University Point's Barker Cocoa win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive June, the longtime South Charles Association veteran toyed with opposing pitchers, collecting 34 hits in 77 at-bats.

The veteran first baseman hit for a .442 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 30 RBIs and 30 runs scored.

So far on the season Cocoa is hitting .444 with 30 home runs, 83 RBIs and 81 runs scored. He has 99 hits and played in 64 games.

NCA Pitcher - Whokill Poole of the Starlight Killers is the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month. In June, he sparkled and shined on the mound with 5 wins and no losses in 5 starts.

Poole checked opposing batters on 38 base hits and a .244 batting average. He rang up 28 strikeouts in 42.1 innings of work, surrendered 5 walks and fashioned a 2.13 ERA.

Up to now Poole has recorded a record of 10-2. In 14 starts he has fanned 72 batters in 102.1 innings with a 3.25 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - The South Charles Association scribes have picked June's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Fosdyke Rochambeau of Quincy. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 5-0 mark.

The Gunners star hurler made 6 starts with a 3.18 ERA and surrendered 38 hits in 45.1 innings. He struck out 25 and walked 11.

Thus far this season, Rochambeau has tossed 116 innings in 16 starts, fanned 57 batters, walked 39 and put up a 3.65 ERA with 8 wins and 2 losses.

NCA Rookie - Freak Mouton is living a dream. Not only did he net the North Charles Association's Rookie of the Month Award today, but the 21-year-old has put together a string of starts that has everybody talking all the league.

In the month of June the Fort Hagen starter was 3-0 as he put up a 3.64 ERA. He also totaled 16 strikeouts in 29.2 innings, while holding opponents to a .287 average. Pretty good stats for a rookie.

Looking at his season stats, Mouton has won 6 and lost 5, collecting 55 strikeouts and 45 walks in 89 innings with a 4.65 ERA.

SCA Rookie - For the last month Clueless Gunsmith has done his best to prove he can be a big game pitcher for the Egret Ninjas. He was the best newcomer and picked up the South Charles Association Rookie of the Month trophy.

In June Gunsmith rang up a fine 2-0 record in 0 starts as he dominated league batters with an excellent 0.00 ERA. He worked 6 innings, collecting 5 strikeouts while walking 0.

This year Gunsmith has earned no saves, worked 12 innings, fanned 9 hitters and recorded a 3.00 ERA. He has also put up a 2-0 won-lost mark.

MML Analysis

With almost 2/3 of the season complete, the MML divisional races are not at all settled. The largest lead is one game, with the Ted Williams Division holding a three-way tie. Divisional leaders in the non-tied divisions are the Abernathy Adamantium, Everett Mutant Hounds, and Brookline Bandoliers. The tied division is among the Providence Warlocks, Worcester Cannons, and Wellesley Wanderers.

The Bandoliers' Danny Marker had the best-hitting performance in June. He had a 3 for 4 day on June 4 in a 19-1 win over Braintree. In that game, Marker hit two home runs, walked twice, scored five runs, and drove in five runs. Marker is batting .291 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI.

On June 27, Jeff Lienhard of Warwick had the month's and season's best pitching performance. In the Mirelurks' 11-0 win over Sandwich, Lienhard pitched a complete-game four-hit shutout, striking out 15 in the process. On the season, Lienhard is 6-4 with a 5.06 ERA in 16 starts.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 25 Jumping Jehoshaphat Cobb has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Lynn Fortune Finders star can enjoy the numbers he put up in June, which have garnered him the nod as the Legends League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .422 average with 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Currently Cobb has 14 home runs and a .301 batting average.

SL Hitter - When Mountainside Rockhand stepped up to the plate in June he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the Stars League Batter of the Month award.

The young Braintree first baseman posted a .421 batting average with 6 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 19 runs. Rockhand also worked pitchers for 13 walks to post a .486 on-base percentage.

In the 2309 season Rockhand is hitting .372 with 11 home runs.

LL Pitcher - The Danvers Sonics felt very secure when they sent Jeremy Wyckoff out to the hill last month. The 25-year-old starter went after Legends League hitters with a vengeance and earned June's Pitcher of the Month award.

He went 5-0 with a 1.09 ERA as he struck out 35 in 49.1 innings over 6 starts.

In 16 starts this year Wyckoff has recorded a 8-4 record and a 3.46 ERA.

SL Pitcher - The Worcester Cannons owe Justin Hodges a lot for his performance this past month. One of the league's most dominant starters in June, Hodges tore up the opposition with a fine 4-0 mark on his way to the Stars League Pitcher of the Month award.

"When you're pitching this well," analyzed Hodges, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is."

It was Hodges who did the banging in June as he tossed up 36 strikeouts in 47 innings, holding opponents to a .247 average and posting a 2.68 ERA.

Hodges has a 5-0 season record so far. In 8 starts, he has fanned 46 batters in 61 innings with a 3.25 ERA.

BMU Analysis

The BMU just surpassed its midway point of the season. League leaders are the Brockton Irish; Mystic Pines Raybathers; Neponset Park Criticals; and Forest Grove Pugilists.

The top hitting performance in June was by Marlborough's Jaden Castle on June 11 against Marblehead. Castle was 3 for 4 with three home runs, two walks, four runs, and five RBI in the 17-7 victory. Castle is batting .310 with six home runs and 24 RBI in 44 games.

The best pitching performance of the month happened on June 8 when Spanky Sutherland of Woburn pitched a complete-game shutout of Marblehead. In the game, he allowed three hits and struck out eight. Sutherland is 5-2 with a 4.66 ERA in 12 starts.

BMU Players of the Month

CA Hitter - Zaire Inquisitor made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Commonwealth Association this past month.

The Mystic Pines Raybathers left fielder shined through the month of June and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 23-year-old hit .449 with 9 home runs, 21 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

This season Inquisitor is swinging the bat at a .431 rate with 62 hits in 144 at-bats. To date he has hit 11 home runs, scored 44 runs and driven in 32.

MA Hitter - Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in June.

Pooja Berrie put up a remarkable month at the age of 21 and has been named the Massachusetts Association Batter of the Month.

For the month, Berrie hit .486 with 7 home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Berrie is currently hitting at a .356 pace with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs.

CA Pitcher - Spanky Sutherland is the latest Commonwealth Association Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Woburn starter shone on the hill repeatedly last month and finished June with a sparkling 4-0 record.

In 5 starts he tossed 33.2 innings, posted 23 strikeouts, and put up a 1.60 ERA.

Checking out his stats for the year, Sutherland has racked up 5 wins and 2 losses in 12 starts, posted a 4.66 ERA, and struck out 49 batters in 65.2 innings.

MA Pitcher - In June, the best pitcher in the Massachusetts Association was Willie Dustice, thanks to some sensational numbers coming out of the bullpen.

The Forest Grove relief ace compiled a 2-0 mark and an ERA of 2.45 in 11 innings with 9 strikeouts and 7 saves in 7 save opportunities.

This year Dustice has 20 relief appearances with 13 saves, 4-1 season record and a 1.61 ERA. He has hurled 22.1 innings, given up 15 hits, struck out 18 and walked 7. Opposing clubs have batted .195 against the Forest Grove reliever.

GBRL Analysis

Current division leaders at the halfway point are the Lynn Woods Bloatflies, Nuka Express Chrono Cowboys, Cabot House Triggermen and Park Street AntAgonizers in the Southeast Division, and Pioneer Park Hackers.

The top hitting performance blew away the other performances of the season. On June 11, Cabot House's Yanto Chase had a big day against Corvega in a 14-3 blowout. Chase was 4 for 5 with three home runs in three consecutive innings, a walk, four runs, and five RBI. Chase is a .277 hitter with 16 home runs and 31 RBI on the season in his professional debut after being taken in the 1st round of the 2308 Draft.

Nuka Express's SP Shaggy Doo was considered to have the best performance in June. Doo struck out 10, walked one, and allowed three hits in a complete-game shutout over Hyde Park on June 12.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, Whitebear Whittington certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the NL Batter of the Month award for June.

The 18-year-old first baseman for the Lynn Woods Bloatflies hit .371 with 11 home runs, 24 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This season Whittington is hitting .343 with 12 home runs.

SL Hitter - Eli Durus is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Pioneer Park left fielder joined that select company when the South League announced the results of June's voting.

Durus totaled 25 hits, 9 walks, 14 home runs, 28 RBIs and 19 runs scored last month to put together a .379 batting average and .456 on-base percentage.

Durus is currently hitting at a .353 pace with 26 home runs, 54 RBIs and has scored 45 times.

NL Pitcher - James Komor of the Lynn Woods Bloatflies strung a bunch of high quality starts together in June to earn the North League Pitcher of the Month trophy.

For the month he finished with a superlative 4 wins and no losses and a 3.06 ERA. The Lynn Woods star started 4 games, pitched 32.1 innings and struck out 33.

In 9 starts this season Komor has crafted a 7-2 record with a 3.53 ERA.

BCAC Analysis

There are 26 games remaining in the 2309 season for each team. With that many games remaining, there are still races but also the beginning of the end for others. At this point of the season, the Harvard Crimson leads the North Division by four games, while the South Division is a tie between the Commonwealth Terriers and Mass Bay Beacons.

C Stray Cat Whiskers of MBU had the top day so far this season, peppering Northeastern with hits through the game in the Beacons' 12-10 road win. In the game, Whiskers was 5 for 5 with two doubles, two home runs, with four runs and four RBI. Whiskers is batting .339 with three home runs and 36 RBI.

Tufts University's Cutter Redman has had some impressive pitching performances in the 2309 season, but his game against CIT on June 26 was the best. Redman pitched a no-hitter, just missing a perfect game by walking one batter. He struck out 11 in the game and completed the first no-hitter in BCAC history. On the season, Redman is 11-7 with a 3.98 ERA in 19 starts.

BCAC Players of the Month

BCAC Hitter - Boston College Eagles fans believe they've got a talented young star in Stoo Berko.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in June, as he hit .368 with 8 home runs, 18 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

The end result was the left fielder being named the Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference Batter of the Month.

So far this year Berko is batting .309 with 16 home runs.

BCAC Pitcher - The best pitcher this past month in the Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference was Cutter Redman of the Tufts University Jumbos. He really razzle-dazzled league hitters, finishing June with a standout 4-2 record and 2.77 ERA.

The Jumbos hurler made 7 starts and surrendered 35 hits in 52 innings. He struck out 62 and walked 12.

To date Redman is 11-7 in 19 starts with a 3.98 ERA and has 142 strikeouts in 135.2 innings.

CYL Playoffs

The CYL season is down to just four teams: the Beantown Sprouts, South Charles Bank Moonies, Taunton Giants, and Brown Bubblers. The NR's #1 seed Sprouts swept both the Wellesley Brahmin and Covenant Dandy Boys to reach the Regional Finals. The NR's #2 seed Moonies also swept their way to the Regional Finals with series wins over the Diamond City Newsboys and the North Charles Bank Goonies. In the SR, the #1 seed Taunton Giants won each of its series two games to one: over the Jamaica Plain Treasures and the Harwich Fishheads. Brown is the #3 seed and got to the Regional Finals by sweeping the West Quincy Atomatoys and Thompson Heights Earthlings.

Victory, Cherry on Top

The Victory Cave Crickets and Cherry Ghoulrillas are the current leaders in their divisions after the halfway point of the season. The Ghoulrillas, though, only have a one-game lead over Orange and two games over Dark in the South Bradberton Division.

At only 23 years of age, Mike Munchkin could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Victory Cave Crickets, as June was one to remember for the right fielder and he has captured the Nuka World League Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .474 with 1 home run, 10 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

During the current season Munchkin is batting at a .424 clip with 4 home runs and 29 RBIs. He has played in 48 games and scored 53 times.

There was little doubt around the Nuka World League that Allen Puckett would be awarded Pitcher of the Month honors for June. Today, they made it official, naming the 30-year-old Orange Tourists starter the latest honoree.

He thoroughly dominated the hitters who stood in against him, holding them to a .266 batting average while fashioning a 2.35 ERA in 5 starts. His record for the month was 5-0 in 38.1 innings of work.

This year Puckett has recorded a 8-1 mark. In 12 starts he has fanned 63 batters in 90.1 innings with a 2.49 ERA.

Orange's Rich Texan collected 31 hits to snare the Nuka World League Rookie of the Month for June.

He batted .352 with 1 home run, 8 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

In this current campaign Texan is hitting at a .318 clip with 3 home runs and 15 RBIs.

In the Amusement Park League, the Safari Adventure Gazelles lead by three games in one division, while the Dry Rock Gulch Convicts and Grandchester Flying Ants are tied in the other division.

Jake Roth has a lot going for him. The Nuka Bottling Plant center fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Amusement Park League has just picked him as its top hitter for June.

In 24 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .391 with 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

This season Roth is batting .299 with 14 home runs. He has scored 36 runs and driven in 45.

The Amusement Park League announced the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award. It went to bullpen ace Eric Jacobs of Nuka Bottling Plant for his outstanding work on the mound.

During the month, the Pack star stood out with no saves in no save opportunities, a 2.57 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 42 innings he struck out 37 and gave up 31 hits and 21 walks.

For the year, Jacobs has collected no saves in 6 relief appearances. He has also rung up 49 strikeouts and 32 walks in 54.1 innings while registering a 4.64 ERA and a 5-2 won-lost mark.

The NWLRL sees the Wixon Cola Kings with a one-game lead in one division and a tie between the Nuka Plant Electrics and Dunmore Ferris Wheels in the other division.

Not known for his offensive prowess, Ernie DaChicken set the league afire in June and took home the NWL Rookie League Batter of the Month award.

The Dunmore right fielder posted a steady .371 batting average, 12 home runs, 24 RBIs and 24 runs.

A look at his season totals shows DaChicken with 15 home runs, .325 BA, .433 OBP, 38 RBIs and 37 runs scored.

The Pitcher of the Month for June has been picked and the NWL Rookie League award went to Wixon hurler, Adrian Beercan.

During the month, Beercan was impressive with a 1.67 ERA and 4 wins and 1 loss. In 27 innings he struck out 33 and gave up 19 hits and 9 walks.

In 10 starts this season Beercan has registered a 4-2 record and a 3.14 ERA.

Finally, the Bradberton Boys League in its newly-expanded season saw the Wixon Shovels sweep the Holyoke Mech Dragons in the Bradberton Boys Series.

Shovels Sweep Bradberton Boys Series
The Wixon Shovels rolled over the Holyoke Mech Dragons 6-5 at Mystery Mansion Minor Park to easily win the 2309 Bradberton Boys Series crown.

Wixon won in a walk and swept the series from the Mech Dragons 2-0. It was their 1st championship title.

Winning manager Roger Fernandez praised his own club as well as the opposition, calling the Mech Dragons "a fine team."

"It wasn't as easy as it looked. We had to play good baseball to beat them," he said. "We always seemed to come up with the key hit at the right time and to make the plays on defense when we had to. That's how you win the Bradberton Boys Series."

The Shovels took first place in the West Division and rounded out the year with a 30-13 record.

All-Star Games

NWL

Brad Krol cemented his status as one of the best in the game with his performance tonight.

"It's an honor to even be invited to the game. To be rewarded as the MVP of the game is extra special," the South Bradberton Division star said after his great showing. "Just playing on the same diamond as some of these guys is a pure treat."

In the game itself, Brad Krol certainly wasn't the only great player out there, but he did enough in the South Bradberton Division's 9-2 win over the North Bradberton Division All-Stars.

In 491 career games, Krol has put up a .284 average, collected 132 doubles, 10 triples, and 70 home runs, driven in 294 runs, and scored 242 times.

It is not an easy task to pick the best players for the annual baseball classic -- the All-Star Game. It is not possible to please everybody. Whether we agree or not, they have been chosen ... and here they are. The rosters for this year's Nuka World League All-Star Game have been announced.

The NWL manager conceded that not every deserving player is rewarded with a spot on the roster. "Every year," he said, "someone is disappointed to be left out. This year's no different -- too many good players, not enough roster spots."

APL

The APL South Division All-Stars reigned supreme tonight at Star Core Stadium at the Galactic Zone, with a 5-3 triumph over the APL North Division All-Stars.

APL South Division first baseman Hunter Wilde led the way for the winning club, putting up a 1-for-3 mark to earn game MVP honors.

"We had some fun out there," he said. "We've got a great league and a great team and I'm not surprised we won."

Wilde has a lifetime .336 average and .421 on-base percentage in his career with 191 hits, 19 doubles, 1 triple, 69 home runs, 159 RBIs and 130 runs scored.

What's the best league? The APL North Division or the APL South Division? The answer will be found in the Amusement Park League All-Star Game. All the votes have been counted and tabulated, all the players have been selected, and they will decide the question on the baseball diamond.

NWLRL

The best of the best took to the field at Billerica Stadium tonight, giving NWLRL fans a show in the annual all-star game.

The North Bradberton Division earned bragging rights with a 9-5 win over the South Bradberton Division.

Convince Morton was named the MVP for his efforts, as he batted 1-for-1 in the contest.

"I'm just glad we won, that's the main thing," he said. "The personal accomplishment isn't something I strive for in an all-star game."

For his career, Morton has hit at a .285 clip. Among his lifetime numbers are 177 hits, 22 doubles, 7 triples, 15 home runs and 78 RBIs.

Nothing is for certain about the 2309 NWL Rookie League All-Star Game. It might be dominated by top-notch pitching performances. Or it could turn into a home run derby. Who knows? Pitch by pitch, inning by inning, the game could feature a little of both -- six strikeouts in a row by a nasty southpaw -- or a 3-homer day for some superstar slugger -- plus great catches, thrills, chills and spills -- all the great and the unexpected things that can happen in a baseball game.

This year, the North Bradberton Division will be represented by these All-Star performers:

Anglers and Atoms Identical in Place and Record

Both the Eden Meadows Anglers and Grand Hotel Atoms are atop the Vim! League and their divisions at 29-19. The Anglers hold a four-game lead, while the Atoms have a two-game lead. Let's view our top players in the month of June.

Jason Eisch battered Vim! League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Vim! League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Eisch told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 24 games, Eisch hit .388 with 10 home runs, 35 RBIs and scored 26 runs.

In his 2309 season totals, Eisch has 12 home runs, .340 BA, .406 OBP, 48 RBIs and 35 runs scored.

There was nobody finer on the mound in June and Bossy O'Malley cruised to the Vim! League Pitcher of the Month award today.

He was 6-0 with a 1.91 ERA while piling up 25 strikeouts in 47 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .199 batting average.

For the season O'Malley has logged 9 wins and 2 losses and struck out 43 batters in 85 innings while compiling a 3.39 ERA.

Dex Labb's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Eden Meadows right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month.

During the month he hit .322 with 1 double, no triples and 7 home runs. Labb also scored 18 times and drove in 16 runs.

Batting .319 to date, Labb has 9 home runs and 22 RBIs.

In the Mount Desert Island League, the Southwest Harbor Rippers have a large seven-game lead in one division, while the Rayburn Point Patcheyes and Eagle's Cove Harpooners are knotted at 26-22 in the other division.

Boss Ross put together a good June to earn the Mount Desert Island League Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Cliff's Edge officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Actors left fielder posted a .345 batting average with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Ross is batting .354 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs this season.

When Brent Fox takes the hill, he usually takes command of the game -- at least that's the way it was in June. The outcome was usually a Southwest Harbor victory. His fine 5-0 performance earned him the Mount Desert Island League Pitcher of the Month trophy.

The talented Rippers hurler made 5 starts, worked 42 innings, permitted 38 base hits, and struck out 23 while putting up a 2.57 ERA.

This year Fox has a 7-1 record with a 3.47 ERA in 9 starts.

The ViM! Rookie League also sees a lead and a tie in divisions. The Vim Factory Pops have a four-game lead over two teams, while both the Fringe Cove Champions and Longfellow Pips are tied at 25-29 in the other division.

Even though he is a newcomer to VIM! Rookie League, Mack Triggerfinger put up some good numbers in June and earned the VRL Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Longfellow's offensive leaders with a .333 average in 24 games. He also racked up 9 home runs, 32 RBIs, and 26 runs scored.

This year Triggerfinger is hitting .298 with 21 home runs.

Amray Mukanda of Kitteredge had an outstanding June with a 5-0 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the VIM! Rookie League.

He topped off the month with a 3.06 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 35.1 innings, fanned 35 and held opposing teams to a .254 average.

Over the season Mukanda has thrown 76.1 innings and dished out 68 strikeouts with a 7-2 mark and a 4.13 ERA.

In the Maine Youth Leagues, there is a new champion!

With a 12-11 win over the Echo Point Glowers at Echo Point Park today, the Beaver Creek Bowlers wrapped up their 1st title in team history.

The Bowlers left little doubt who was the better team. Celebrating a banner year, "team" was the word of the day in the victorious clubhouse after the game.

"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Beaver Creek manager Derek LeBlanc. "Our players felt that way all year, and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."

A jovial mood filled the air as Beaver Creek celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" would be in order.

"I hope they have a big celebration," Echo Point manager Indergabriell Lorenzo said. "They deserved to win this series and they deserve to celebrate it."

All-Star Games

Vim! League

The best of the best took to the field at Harbor Grand Hotel Grounds tonight, giving VIML fans a show in the annual all-star game.

The Fog Division earned bragging rights with a 6-4 win over the Harbor Division.

Max Standing was named the MVP for his efforts, as he batted 2-for-3 in the contest.

"I'm just glad we won, that's the main thing," he said. "The personal accomplishment isn't something I strive for in an all-star game."

Career-to-date Standing is hitting .269 with a total of 108 home runs.

It's that time of the season again, when the best of the best battle it out for Vim! League bragging rights. Yes, it's time for the annual All-Star game! The Fog Division All-Stars will take on the Harbor Division All-Stars in a star-studded showdown.

MDIL

There's a whole lot of pride on the line when the best baseball players throughout Mount Desert Island League gather for the all-star game.

It was no different this year, as the Small Bertha Division bested the Old Longfellow Division by a score of 5-2, in a spirited contest played at The Lumber Yard.

"It might be a little lower intensity than the regular season or playoffs, but everyone in that clubhouse still wants to win this game," said Kevin Mugshot of the Small Bertha Division, who was named the game MVP.

Mugshot has hit for a .304 career average and totaled 510 hits, 57 home runs and 266 RBIs.

VRL

During the star-studded affair, the 2309 Western Atlantic Division All-Stars defeated the Eastern Atlantic Division All-Stars by a score of 6-3.

The fans in attendance at Devil Dogs Field certainly enjoyed the show, seeing the best that the game had to offer.

Chief among the stars was Bad Breath Seth, who led the Western Atlantic Division to victory.

"I will admit I was nervous out there. To share a field with such incredible players is always a humbling experience. But after the first couple pitches, you just have to ignore the talent out there and focus on your game," Seth commented as he accepted his award after the game.

His lifetime stats show Seth has batted .256 and collected 203 hits, 46 home runs and 134 RBIs.

Once again it is time to honor the elite players in the VIM! Rookie League. The league office today announced the names of the players selected to play in the annual league All-Star classic.

BNN Weekly Report

News from the CBO, Minors, College, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

12 July 2309

CBO Analysis

We are in the middle of July, which means the All-Star Break is approaching quickly. At this point in the season, the NCA still looks wide open with nine teams technically still in the playoff hunt. On the other hand, the SCA appears it may have its playoff five already in place. Let's take a look at the current playoff seeds and then the power rankings.

NCA
1. Starlight
2. County Crossing
3. Bunker Hill
4. Nordhagen Beach
5. The Slog

Bunker Hill and Nordhagen Beach switched places in this update, and The Slog replaced Sunshine Tidings for the final wildcard spot.

SCA
1. Oberland
2. University Point
3. Jamaica Plain
4t. Egret (Egret and Roxbury have yet to meet in 2309).
4t. Roxbury

Oberland and University Point still control their leagues, while all of Jamaica Plain, Egret, and Roxbury just moved around in the wildcard spots. The Ninjas and Rad Sox meet for the first time this week as their last series before the Break.

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) University Point Deathclaws (135.0, +) - Despite not having the CBO's best record, the Deathclaws are the CBO's hottest team, winning 9 of 10 and seven straight. The Claws swept FHE, won two over Jamaica Plain, swept Egret, and swept Quincy, including a 20-4 victory yesterday.
2) Oberland T-51s (132.5, -) - The T-51s are three games up on University Point and Starlight for the CBO's best record but dropped a spot after going 7-3 in their last 10. Oberland split at the Gunners, won two over Roxbury, swept Quincy, and then won two of three at the Sox.
3) Starlight Killers (123.0, -) - The Killers are the best team in the NCA, leading the Institute League by six games after going 7-3. Starlight swept County Crossing, won one at Bunker Hill, swept Nordhagen Beach, and then won two over Sunshine Tidings.
4) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (118.5, ++) - The Red Rockets are another red-hot team, going 8-2 the past two weeks and currently on a five-game winning streak. The Rockets swept the Rad Sox, won one at University Point, swept Diamond City, and swept Spectacle Island.
5) County Crossing Bloodbugs (113.0, -) - The Bloodbugs are still in control in the Brotherhood League despite going in their past 10 games. The Bugs lost two to the Killers, won two over Salem, swept Fort Hagen, and won one at Nahant.
6) Bunker Hill 75ers (108.0, o)
7) Egret Ninjas (104.0, -)
8) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (103.5, -)
9) Roxbury Rad Sox (102.0, -)
10) The Slog Ghouls (98.0, -)
11) Vault 81 Dwellers (92.0, ++)
12) Salem Witch Hats (91.5, +)
13) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (89.5, -)
14) Nahant Celtics (87.5, +)
15) Atom Cats (83.0, +)
16) Spectacle Island Reapers (81.0, --)
17) Quincy Gunners (77.5, --)
18) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (74.5, o)
19) Diamond City Swatters (66.0, o)
20) Lexington Synths (65.5, +)
21) Easy Town Assaultrons (62.0, +)
22) Concord Radstags (59.0, -)
23) Goodneighbor Hancocks (57.5, -)
24) FHE Yao Guai (38.0, o)

Brotherhood League

County Crossing has a larger lead over Nordhagen Beach than the Party Boys have over both The Slog and Salem. Suddenly, this league has become the most interesting one of where teams may finish. Both the Bloodbugs and Party Boys seem to be sure things for the playoffs, but complications and slumps do happen.

For the Ghouls, they may be making the move to relevancy this season. Currently, they are 4th in the NCA in runs scored (356) and 7th in runs against (321) despite having the 2nd-best Starters ERA (3.75). The Slog will need to improve their bullpen to make a run, currently 12th in Bullpen ERA (5.90). Young players aiding in the success include SS Gavin Deux-Gas (.332/21/51), rookie 1B Kilometers Davis (.308/20/58), 3B Plain Morris (.266/20/58), ace SP Kyle Gunnels (9-6, 2.86), and SP Flirt Perez (8-4, 2.52).

Institute League

Other than the bottom of the IL, every team has a comfortable distance with the teams before and after them. Starlight has kicked up its status by holding on to the top record, and they are six games up on Bunker Hill, which is five games up on Sunshine Tidings.

Fort Hagen is the last of the teams we still consider alive in the playoff hunt. They have been decent, but a 3-7 mark in their last 10 dropped them seven games back in the race for the 5th spot. The Silver Shroud's offense is much improved in 2309, currently 6th in runs scored (345) despite having the NCA's top batting average (.286). One problem on offense has been their power numbers, 11th at 64. SS Brennan Colt-45 (.360/6/29) has been with the Shroud for only 43 games after being called up from Worcester. 2B Sauce Almeida (.319/9/42) and C Sleve McDichael (.308/9/38) are also batting over .300.

Minutemen League

This league looks to be a race of University Point, Jamaica Plain, and then everyone else with no other team above .500 after both Spectacle Island and Quincy had bad runs of going 3-7 the past two weeks.

The Gunners seem as though they should be more successful than their current 35-37 record. They are 4th in runs scored (371) and 6th in runs allowed (355), meaning they are a well-balanced, above-average team. Four hitters are having great seasons: 1B Curt Carpenter (.376/14/49), RF Baywatch Fischler (.352/15/46), 3B Ben Pettinato (.293/21/75), and 2B Shirt Fowler (.344/9/43).

Railroad League

Oberland has full control of the RL after disposing of Roxbury in 4 of 6 games in the past two weeks, already clinching the season series with a current 7-2 advantage over the Rad Sox. With a nine-game lead, the big question in the second half of the season is if the T-51s can maintain the top record in the SCA.

Egret seems to be the quietest good team in the SCA, which may change if their pitching maintains its success, a sign that playoff success will follow. The Ninjas are 1st in runs allowed (278) due to their Starters ERA (3.48) also being the best. Like The Slog in the NCA, Egret will need to improve its bullpen (10th at 4.97) to be a championship contender. For the starters, all four have an ERA below 4.00: Tup Mallory (7-3, 3.45), Max Grove (6-8, 3.70), Admiral Kelm (12-4, 3.35), and Hry Caje (7-6, 3.49).

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

July 5 - Bunker Hill's Grool Manycaps would not be denied the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award for this past week. His consistent stroke, which produced 10 hits in 20 at-bats and a .500 average, made him the clear favorite to win the honor.

"You just go out there and do what you have to do," said Manycaps, "When I'm up, I try to focus and block everything else out of my mind and have a good at-bat. I'm up there to get a hit or advance a runner, not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment. I hope I can win this award every week."

He also tallied 5 home runs, 9 RBIs, and scored 7 runs.

Thus far this season Manycaps has hit .292 with 16 home runs, 41 RBIs and scored 34 times.

This week's top performer in the South Charles Association was first baseman Barker Cocoa of the University Point Deathclaws.

He pounded out a .375 average and was voted the Player of the Week. Over the last week Cocoa connected for 6 hits in 16 at-bats and 4 home runs, drove in 10 runs and scored 8 times.

For the season Cocoa is batting .444 with 103 hits and 33 home runs. He has scored 87 times and batted in 91.

July 12 - Will Ashfire must have thought he was in seventh heaven this week. First he went on a sensational hitting spree, belting the ball at a .500 pace, then the Lexington first baseman finds out he has been selected the top performer and gets the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

Asked what his hitting philosophy was, Ashfire quipped to the BNN reporters, "Well, my theory of hitting is to just watch the ball as it comes in and hit it."

It was a good week's work for Ashfire. He hit .500 average (9-for-18) with 4 home runs and 9 RBIs.

Ashfire is currently batting .206 with 16 home runs and 29 RBIs.

21-year-old Syd Thriftstore sent shock waves through Commonwealth Baseball Organization last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Thriftstore made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .476 average, 10 hits in 21 at-bats, 4 home runs and 8 runs batted in.

Where the FHE Yao Guai first baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Thriftstore certainly made his mark last week.

In 72 games this year Thriftstore has posted a .298 average and put up these numbers: 22 home runs, 56 RBIs and 44 runs scored.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

19 July 2309

CBO All-Star Rosters

The votes are tallied and the players have been chosen -- all that's left is to "Play Ball"! It's time once again for the midyear classic, where the league's premier performers come together to show their skill and talent. The All-Stars from the North Charles Association and the South Charles Association are set to tangle to determine which league is the best.

MML All-Star Game

Despite his best efforts, game MVP Nate Trollight's Legends League All-Stars couldn't overcome the powerful Stars League squad in the annual All-Star Game.

"We tried our best, but did you see the talent in that lineup?" Trollight was quoted as saying after the game. "I'm honored to be named MVP of the game. To stand among the greatest stars of the game and be declared the best among them is truly an honor, even if we didn't end up winning the game. I had fun, and I think the fans did as well."

The Stars League All-Stars triumphed in the game by a final score of 4-3 in this year's game at Milton General Stadium.

Lifetime Trollight is hitting .323 with 50 doubles, 5 triples, 24 home runs, 101 RBIs and 112 runs scored. He has appeared in 173 games to date and delivered 218 hits.

Greater Boston Rookie League put its best players on the field today, and the game certainly showed that.

In the annual Midseason Classic, the North League came out over the South League by a final score of 8-4. Leading the way for the North League All-Stars was first baseman
Tyler Johnson.

"I go out there and do my best every game, All-Star game or not," the star said after his great show, going 3-for-3 in the contest.

Johnson's career batting average is .261. In 229 games, he has gotten 179 hits, 68 home runs, 160 RBIs and scored 132 runs.

It's that time of the season again, when the best of the best battle it out for Greater Boston Rookie League bragging rights. Yes, it's time for the annual All-Star game! The North League All-Stars will take on the South League All-Stars in a star-studded showdown.

BCAC All-Star Game

There's a whole lot of pride on the line when the best baseball players throughout Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference gather for the all-star game.

It was no different this year, as the South Division bested the North Division by a score of 4-2, in a spirited contest played at Black Diamonds Grounds.

"It might be a little lower intensity than the regular season or playoffs, but everyone in that clubhouse still wants to win this game," said Myles Deese of the South Division, who was named the game MVP.

How would you like to manage a team with more star players than you can play? It wouldn't be an easy chore. That's the dilemma facing the two managers at the annual Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Star classic -- how to get all the talented All-Stars in the game. But it's a joy for the fans -- to see all their favorite stars on one field at the same time.

Here are the official All-Star rosters:

CYL Playoffs

The Beantown Sprouts ignited a huge celebration as they beat the Taunton Giants 2-0 to win the Round 5.

Beantown won the series 3-1, capturing the title for the 1st time.

"We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the champs," said Beantown manager Friday Danielson. "It's a great feeling."

The champs finished the regular season 59-17 and claimed first place in the North Region Ralph Waldo Emerson Division.

In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series MVP and starting pitcher Alex Language said the Sprouts have "great fans and they deserve this."

"I am so happy for our team right now," he said.

Probably overshadowed by the fact that it's the "usual suspects", but the league leaders are really running away with it. I don't exactly think it's a parity problem, just that the CBO as a whole has matured probably to the point where we've got superstars and they make all the difference. There aren't enough superstars for every team to have one, though, and that's natural. Though I feel like IRL would tend to point us in the direction of teams with superstars not always being the best... but maybe we as spectators just have trouble identifying who's actually the best haha

It appears the league leaders are going to run away with their leagues. Hopefully that is a temporary big lead and some of the 2nd place teams can close the gaps.

I mean, to be fair as a stats guy, this may be obvious too but I feel like I can point it out. Just as not everyone can win, not everyone can lose. That's just how the math works in a sport with no ties. If, theoretically we got to a point where one team had literally all the talent and the rest of the teams were rostered with 3rd graders, the stats wouldn't actually be that bad because there'd be parity among the 3rd graders haha.

And the thing about the CBO that has made most of the difference has been the pitching staffs, I believe. On many of the teams with losing records, especially those drafting in the Top 5, their best pitcher is maybe better than the good teams' 4th starter, if that. Well, I still have not figured out how to balance the talent where top pitching is getting drafted at the top of the draft. For the most part, the top position players, including an influx of power-hitting 1B keep getting drafted high and the top pitchers are getting drafted late 1st, thus repeating the cycle of the worst teams having no pitching staff at the CBO or minor-league level. They end up having to trade good CBO positional players for maybe pitching prospects.
