30 Arm at SS?

How well would a player with a 30 arm rating at SS really perform? According to the OOTP position calculator (which may be outdated) he would provide 1.7 WAR and a 65 potential rating, but that seems high. Has anyone tested or had a similar experience? Other ratings are as follows:

Range: 70
Error: 65
Turn DP: 65

Appreciate any thoughts!

Sounds like Jackie Robinson, who played SS in the Negro Leagues but got moved to second almost immediately upon entering the Dodgers organization.

30 arm is too lower on the 80 or 100 scale for SS. They will give up too much defensively. They would need to provide tremendous offensive value.

Think of the infield requirements like this:

Poor Range and Poor Arm = 1B

Good Range and Decent Arm = 2B

Decent Range and Good Arm = 3B

Good Range and Good Arm = SS

That was because they had future HOFer Pee Wee Reese already entrenched as their starting SS, not because of any defensive limitations of Robinson. He actually played 1B his first season with the Dodgers because Eddie Stanky was at 2B before moving to second when Stanky was traded before the 1948 season.

In the mid 50s Robinson played a mix of 3B and LF after Jim Gilliam joined the team, which would probably indicate that they didn't think his arm was lacking.

Think of the infield requirements like this:

Any tall player that has a pulse = 1b

good range and decent arm = 2b

decent range and good arm = 3b

good range and good arm = ss

Put him at second.

Additionally your best rated Turn DP player should also play second.
