All the "this doesn't work" and "that doesn't work" threads

All of you posting threads as described, instead of buying the game for list price then posting all these threads about what doesn't work, why don't you just volunteer to be play testers during the winter? If you did that maybe people wouldn't be buying what is still a beta version on the release date.

Can't speak for everyone, but my opinion on this...

I play the game for my personal enjoyment. In fact, that's kinda the deal. Right? I give you $39.99 (or whatever it costs) and you give me the game. That's supposed to be the trade off right there.

Playing the game using my own strategies and customizing everything how I want is the enjoyment. It's why I want the game. It's why I choose to play the game. Seeing how my long term ideas and plans play out over the course of the sim is the enjoyment of the game.

But running a million sims and analyzing every little nit-pick thing trying to find problems and bugs. Reading stats and data until my eyes bleed, ignoring and disregarding any personal enjoyment parts of the game just to look for screw-ups and problems while receiving no pay check and no compensation for that? Na, I'm good on all that. If people want to do that, that's awesome. To me though, no thank you... I'm guessing a lot of people probably feel similar.

Starting with OOTP12, I have purchased every version simply to run tests. I start testing the minute I get the game and do so for 22 to 23 hours every single day. The game is getting better every year and I really think by OOTP36 or 40, I should be able to finally begin my career as the gm of the Detroit Tigers.

Lol hey, Im not judging anyone. I know plenty of people DO test the game pre-release. I'm very thankful and appreciative of those who do that. It's not for me though.

I agree, testing is mind numbing work and not for me. Having said that I am immensely grateful for the beta testers and the job they do. I am thankful, and I'm sure you are too, that Markus, Matt, and the team still listen to us non-testers when we do have issues.

You may not think it is enough but there is compensation for being a tester. You get a copy of the game and, I think, a louder voice (more important than getting the game, IMHO) in the process. That may not be enough for you or me, but it is something.

How does one become a beta tester? I have literally never seen anything on this before.

One way is to buy the game on release day.

A more helpful way is to write someone in the loop and volunteer.

But they do roll crepes. Today I'm running 600 tests on the effects of weather changes in Boise Idaho on the game. Over the weekend I ran a bunch of tests to see if using the 1 key on the keyboard vs the space bar results in more, less, or the same amount of strikeouts for left handed relievers in non save situations. Tomorrow, I plan on testing whether the game plays the same on an empty stomach as it does following a complete meal....no mayonnaise will be involved.

They posted on the forums last winter

The link on that page is closed, but you can probably reach out to Lukas to see if they have any spots available right now. Though you might have to wait until this winter

So, this means you want my data on playing with an empty stomach?

You play or test 22-23 hours every single day? What a boring life

He's clearly joking. The game caps you at an even 20.0 consecutive hours of testing in a 24 hour period.

How can you say that? I am committed to running the Tigers in 2035 and when I do so, I want things to be perfect. I don't want to be coming on here and saying the the OOTP play by play uses the word "the" too much, or there are too many singles hit right before a rain delays on Wednesdays.

Sure if it was that easy I'd sign up. I think I did actually and either was ignored or denied

And when you do see a bug, please post it- preferably in the right spot in technical.
Animation use to have a lot of weird graphics but only 3 or 4 people would consistently post their bad plays.
If they can they will fix the bugs. Some bugs are impossible to duplicate or find or they may have more pressing matters at the moment.
