Around the League in 1987
I've started a new project to learn more about baseball in 1987 (my birth year). Inspired by another replay I read about, my goal is to manage one game per day from the NL and AL. I'll base the games I manage on a variety of factors--important tie breakers, teams I like, etc.
I'll be playing with historic lineups and transactions turned on, but I'll be modifying the batting order and selecting relievers at my own discretion for the teams that I manage each day. My goal is to post as least 1x or 2x per week with the day's games and any important league updates. |

The season is underway!
American League In the AL, the Athletics and Twins met for opening day in Minnesota. It was a closely fought battle between two teams. Rookie first baseman Mark McGwire took over for Rob Nelson at first in the fifth inning and scored a game-tying home run in the top of the ninth, but it wasn't enough to get the A's the win as the Twins' own first baseman, Kent Hrbek, hit an RBI double to drive in Kirby Puckett and win the game. National League The Pirates started the season by putting on an absolute clinic for the Mets, who looked outplayed every step of the way in an 8-1 loss. Pirates' pitcher Bob Patterson won the Player of the Game for going 2-for-4 at the plate and throwing 7.1 innings while giving up only a single run after fielding error let the Mets get on base. Standings The Astros and Giants are off to a strong start after opening their seasons a day early. Both are 2-0. Last edited by Salathor; 05-14-2024 at 07:45 PM. Reason: can't figure out how to keep the standings small |

Get yourself a copy of Bill James' Baseball Abstract for 1987 - I think it's the most famous of the editions, and has appeared in the movie Moneyball and an episode of the TV program Dr. House.

I have been playing more Strat and less OOTP lately, but just wanted to check in to say that I found that abstract at the public library (the 1988 edition) and just put in a request for it. Can't wait for it to arrive.
Thanks for the recommendation! |
