Historical Hall of Fame Issue
I am primarily an historical player of OOTP baseball. I have encountered a situation in one of my replays that I have not previously seen mentioned in these forums, and I wonder if anyone else has experienced anything similar.
The issue involves the hall of fame. I started my historical replay in 1955 with import all history up to that point and I used the default choices for hall of fame eligibility and voting. In real life 1954 three players – Maranville, Dickey and Terry were elected to the hall. Four others were close – DiMaggio, Lyons, Vance and Hartnett. In the OOTP baseball version of 1954, Vance and Hartnett had reached their final year of eligibility and were dropped from future consideration. In my replay, there was no voting in 1955 since the replay started just before the start of the season – not unexpected. In the real life 1955 elections all four mentioned above were elected because the ten year rule did not exist at that point in history. I expected that when I reached 1956, DiMaggio and Lyons who were close in 1954 would be elected (or get close) and others who were below them in 1954 (Greenberg, Cronin, Carey, Gowdy) would also be getting some support. But, to my surprise, they were all gone! No one who received votes in 1954 and still had eligibility left under the ten year rule received votes at all. It seems as though OOTP is considering that since these players received no votes in 1955 (since there was no voting) they all fell below the 5% threshhold and were dropped. Has anyone else experinced this? After thinking about this, I decided to do a test where I started my replay in 1955, but raised the number of years after retiring to be eligible for the hall of fame to 15 and lowered the elimination threshhold to 0%. This seemed to work, at least to some extent. The players from 1954 who received some votes, but not 75%, did re-appear in 1956 – Lyons, Vance, Hartnett, Greenberg, Cronin, Carey, Gowdy and others. DiMaggio did not because he had not been retired for five years by that point as that rule also did not exist in real life 1954. The problem is that the voting results shows them all on the ballot for the first time! Any comments, suggestions or help would be appreciated. |

Look, I hear what you're saying here but it's just one of those concessions that has to be made as a trade-off for being able to plonk yourself anywhere in history at will and start a new timeline.
If it bothers you too much to ignore, I'd suggest just manually inducting these guys at the appropriate time. I understand it's not the same but I don't see how the game can be too much better in this regard than it is. So many permutations to be taken into consideration makes getting it 100% right an impossible dream. Just my $0.02's worth. G |

Add my .02$ worth to Luckyman suggestion too... this is the way I did it in the older version launching my games in 1969 with the Expos for Joe Medwick, Goose Goslin and Kiki Cuyler since there was no vote for 1968. Not ideal but pretty much the only solution if you don't start from the beginning (or in 1901 if you only play modern MLB history).

Thank you both for your replies. That's pretty much the conclusion I had reached also. My "workaround" (temporarily lowering the elimination threshold to 0%) does at least stop players from being completely disqualified.
