My 2 cents on the Combinator Cards
I pulled a Steve Trachsel combinator card and figured I would dive into it to learn how it works and/or if it is worth it. The short answer from me - NO it is NOT worth it.
It was fun trying to figure out which players would help boost Steve the most (maybe I missed it but I could not find a place where they tell you this info?). Scouring baseball reference rosters from 90s Cubs and 00s Mets teams was cool. I spent 2 days buying up all the Sammy Sosa, Shawn Dunston, Jose Hernandez, Mark Grace, Randy Myers, Jose Reyes, Turk Wendell, Joe McEwing cards that I could find using "Buy Offers". This was busy work, but also a rewarding process. I guess my main gripe with the whole thing is that it is wayyyyyy to hard to actually get the boost. I gambled at around "80% chance" like 4/5 times and only came away with one boost. Definitely wasted a lot of time and perfect points that could have been spent in a much more productive way. Even If I would have gotten the boosts, I still feel like the improvement to the card is not at all large enough to warrant all the effort and points spent. Obviously the intention of the new feature is to give people another reason to buy lower level cards in bulk or to give a reward to players for buying a ton of packs and therefore having a ton of extra cards. But for me - I don't think I will be using it, at least until the price of the cards I need hits rock bottom on the market. Would love to hear someone else's perspective to see if I am missing something here... Last edited by dieders40; 03-23-2024 at 12:35 PM. |

But, after pulling Cy Young combinator on Monday that was quickly sold for an obscene number of points for that card, I love the combinators. They can be fantastic for selling purposes only before the fad runs its course.

Combinator cards remind me a lot of twinks from World of Warcraft. If you get, say, a strong silver combinator, even if you level it all the way up it'll still be a silver, and it'll be an extra weapon in silver tourneys even though it plays like a gold (or maybe even a diamond).
It's also going to be a way to prop up market prices on cards, because using all those extra cards for combos will eliminate them...more rarity equals higher prices, even on the "junk cards" but especially on the stronger ones. Great for the folks who want to spend money, not so much for us F2P types. |

You can't quick sell combinator cards and the minimum selling price is set to a gross level. You can't even trash them. I wonder if I can lock them up for a mission.

After the initial stir they caused, most people realize that they are actually almost worthless. I am glad I got an early windfall but they are far from my plans.
