MLB news: Sept. 22 -- Brewers put finishing touches on another NL Central title
Despite falling to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0, the Milwaukee Brewers have been crowned champions of the National League Central Division for the third consecutive season.
In charge of the division from almost the outset, the Brewers sit at 89-62, some 12.5 games in front of the second-place St. Louis Cardinals with 11 games remaining in the season. Milwaukee will likely have to settle for the No. 2 seed in the NL playoffs as the NL West Division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, at 100-48, have seemingly already wrapped up the top spot. The playoff berth is the sixth in the last seven season for Milwaukee. The Brewers fell to the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2024 World Series. Last edited by rink23; 04-02-2024 at 02:30 AM. |

MLB news: Sept. 25 -- Twins are champions of the American League Central
With a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners, the Minnesota Twins have clinched the championship of the American League Central Division.
At 96-57, the Twins are 10.5 games in front of the Cleveland Guardians with nine games left in the season. Minnesota also is close to clinching the overall top seed in the American League playoffs, as it owns a nine-game advantage over AL-West leading Houston. The division title is the second in the last three years for Minnesota. The Twins have not made the World Series since 1991, when they defeated the Atlanta Braves in seven games. |

MLB news: Sept. 27 -- Dodgers once again rule NL West
With a 5-3 win over the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers have clinched the championship of the National League West Division.
The title is the Dodgers 13th outright championship in the last 14 seasons. It also marks the 20th straight year they have made the playoffs. At 104-49, easily the best record in MLB, Los Angeles owns a 10-game advantage over the Arizona Diamondbacks with nine games left in the season. At 94-59, the D-backs have the second-best record in the National League. The Dodgers also have clinched home-field advantage in the NL playoffs, as their record is some 14 games better than NL-Central leading Milwaukee. |

MLB news: Sept. 29 -- Guardians collect wild-card berth
The Cleveland Guardians have assured themselves a place in the upcoming American League playoffs after sewing up a wild-card berth with a 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox.
Cleveland will finish the season in second place in the American League Central Division, as at 84-69 they sit 9.5 games behind the first-place Minnesota Twins with five games remaining. The Guardians will likely be the top seed among the wild cards, as they are 4.5 games of the second-place Texas Rangers. It is the second straight postseason berth for the Guardians, who last season won the AL Central. Cleveland last reached the World Series in 2016, when it lost to the Chicago Cubs in seven games. |

MLB news: Sept. 29 -- Astros find their way back to playoffs
With a 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers, the Houston Astros will find themselves back in postseason play after a one-year absence.
In 2024, the Astros missed the playoffs for the first time in seven seasons, but they'll be there in 2025 although it's uncertain how they'll be seeded. At 89-67, Houston owns a four-game lead over the Texas Rangers in the American League West Division with six games left on the schedule. If the Astros fail to hang on to that lead, at least they know they will be a wild card. Houston last made the World Series in 2022, when it lost to the Atlanta Braves. |

MLB news: Sept. 29 -- Mets clinch at least a wild card
With a 5-3 win over the Washington Nationals, the New York Mets assured themselves a spot in the National League playoffs.
Owners of a 84-73 record, the Mets sit atop the NL East Division some 4.5 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves with five games left in the season. The playoff berth is the first for the Mets since 2022. They last reached the World Series in 2015, losing to the Kansas City Royals. |
