*** CBL’s OPENING DAY MLB 2024 ROSTER NOW AVAILABLE ***

** CBL’s OPENING DAY MLB 2024 ROSTER NOW AVAILABLE ***

Hey gang!!!!

WOW WOW WOW

I can’t thank the community enough for nearly ~25,000 views for my previous posts over the past few months on the roster set!! For those that have followed along the roster set progress the past few months it has been a true labor of love and nearly five months invested.

Some may or may not know that I created the OOTP6 MLB roster set for Markus and team WAAAAY BACK and have helped the OOTP roster team off and on the past several years.

In nearly two decades of roster calibration work since that time, I am perhaps most excited and pleased with this roster. I am extremely excited to share this roster set with everyone.

Creating and calibrated rosters is not my day job, as I have a full time job, married, and two busy active teenagers as well that keep me more than busy. Maybe someday roster can become full time and pay the bills and I can devote even more time to it.

*** Once you download, it’s important to follow these steps first ***

Unzip the file to your saved games folder

When you open the file in OOTP, select your team

Once you select your team make sure to select “enable all cpu teams to make transactions”

I’d also suggest running the computer manager for all teams so the AI can shuffle around players to different minor league levels

Roster set features:

- 2024 projections from Steamer and/or ZIPS for thousands of players

- 2024 accurate MLB schedule

- 2023 MLB awards (MVP, et al)

- 2024 MLB rosters as of Opening Day.

- Top 100 overall MLB prospects reviewed and calibrated. Most MLB top prospects are FV 50-55 in real life and in my roster set. True elite prospects like Jackson Holliday/Jackson Chourio/Ethan Salas/Junior Caminero/Paul Skenes will be 65+ FV range.

- In addition to above most MLB players are somewhere in 45-55 range….This is in line with MLB statistical projections as well. True elites such as Ronald Acuna & Jacob DeGrom, are still in the rare elite 75-80 FV. My ratings/potentials system universe are typically more conservative in nature.

- Top 30 prospects for each team reviewed and calibrated utilizing scouting reports from Baseball America and MLB Pipeline

- Top 50 2024 international free agents reviewed, calibrated, and placed on correct team

- Baltimore ownership updated

- Updated coaches at least for MLB teams

- Rule 5 selections updated and flagged

- Top 100 MLB 2024 draft prospects updated and calibrated based on scouting reports from Baseball America and MLB Pipeline. By all accounts a weaker draft class so only a handful of above average prospects (55 FV). Solid depth on projected average prospects (50 FV).

- R/L splits for at least MLB roster batters using either career splits or 2023 splits

- Three new members selected to Hall of Fame

- All trades, free agents, et al as of 3/28 ~ 10am CST

- Updated injury information as of 3/28 ~ 10am CST

- Updated contract information as accurately as we can get (some contracts with multiple opt outs not possible to 100% replicate…for instance Bobby Witt Jr has 4 player opt outs…in the file the player opt out I’ve placed on the first one)

I play with minors & experience limits to keep players moving through the minors and no 35 year olds dominating Rookie ball. I believe PSU or another board member posted these in the past and works quite well:

- AAA & AA: 30 player roster, no limit on experience

- A+: 30 player roster, 5 years experience and less

- A: 30 player roster, 4 years experience and less

- DSL: 50 player roster, 3 years experience and less

- Rookie: 50 player roster, 3 years experience and less

All minor league teams set for a 6 man rotation

Other misc notes….

I do not “overrate” prospects to get them in a certain order on team’s top 30. There are many high floor types (40/45ish FV) that are older and still in minors that OOTP ranks much lower that traditional publications. I did review and calibrate all of them, however my order/OOTP rankings may not match with other traditional publications.

So far in my test simulations of my roster set in OOTP25 overall totals and individual contributions versus real life 2024 are looking VERY strong.

In general my sources for ratings/projections heavily lean on Baseball America, Fangraphs, and MLB Pipeline.

OPENING DAY IS HERE!!!
TIME TO CELEBRATE MLB AND OOTP BASEBALL!!!

this had to be a labor of love because it had to have taken months of hard work. thank you so much for these rosters as they are more accurate and complete than the ones found in OOTP25 as the injury lists are better and the 40 man rosters are more complete.

actually, maybe CBL can wait another day to update this. i know many want to play opening day but at least a half dozen teams are at this moment still finalizing rosters and i suppose they still won't have their official 2024 opening day rosters until game time. one only has to look at the flurry of moves in baseball today.

CBL, thank you.

Sounds like a lot of time was put into this...how is this any different though from the latest updated patched version?

Looking to start new solitaire season and before diving in would like to know the pros and cons.

Thank you.

Hey gang,

I believe I’ve caught what might be triggering by some of the real life eligible 2024 draft players in the set.

Some are tagged as High school junior or College Sophomores.

I’m updating that and will then re-release this file.

to mmarra:

how different than the patched version?
i did a live start today after the patch.
check any team

1. CBL rosters more likely to have close to a 40 man roster instead of less than 30 even compared to a Live Start.
2. CBL rosters more likely to have actual 26 man guys even compared to a Live Start.
3. CBL rosters more likely to have a better injury list.

only disadvantage i can think of is that with fuller 40 man rosters in CBL compared to OOTP25 updated Live Start Patch 2 is that those wanting to play GM have a tougher time making roster decisions with CBL. (Like in real life.)

to aceshigh,

at top of screen click Game and then click Game Settings in the dropdown.
next click on League Settings.
see the three sections, scroll down the middle section to Set All Computer Teams to Allow Roster Changes. clicking on this sets all teams to be run by AI. also notice Set All Teams to Not Allow Roster Changes. if your teams are currently running on AI this forces all teams to be unable to make AI roster moves if you click on this.

Another way if you want just one or some teams to be affected:
Let's say that you want just a few teams to have set rosters with all the others making AI moves.
click on any team
click on settings from that team's page
scroll down the left hand side of the split page section to Roster AI and note the checkbox for Prevent Any AI Roster Changes. if the box is currently unchecked you can click on the box to prevent any AI roster changes for that particular team. if the box is currently checked you can click on the box to uncheck to allow AI roster changes for that particular team. this is helpful because let's say you are tracking a particular team but don't wish to GM and want to see how they do with their current roster and you don't trust the AI to make roster alterations like promotions and demotions. you can set that one team to not make AI moves but if you have enabled injuries you typically will be forced eventually to make some changes. you could then click on allow AI moves to adjust for said injuries and if you like those you could then go back and reset the team to not allow AI moves again.

Thanks for pointing out where the roster AI option was. Have never used that function, and would have been hunting for it for awhile.

I finally got my rosters how I wanted them as I decided to find out where some of the late DFA guys ended up along with tweaking due to late injury news. I did allow Brubaker to be sent to the Yankees but guys like Senzel and Sean Murphy begin healthy. Basically I kept the rosters static through games of March 28, turned on new injuries beginning March 28, and allowed AI roster changes beginning March 29. I had also tweaked the rosters to more reflect the 40 man rosters shown at Fangraphs the morning of March 28.

Here is how I maneuvered using CBLCardinals ratings through the games of April 6, 2024. I have this free to watch on Twitch:

https://www.twitch.tv/kcstengelsr/video/2107607201

In contrast I also show on Twitch my maneuvers using the default OOTP25 ratings through the games of April 6, 2024 but I had set up all teams with 40 man rosters to reflect Fangraphs the morning of March 28:

https://www.twitch.tv/kcstengelsr/video/2107641573

If one views both Twitch sims of this early season you will notice that the AIs make different moves. Some is a reflection of new injuries but others are probably due to the differences of the CBL ratings and the OOTP25 ratings. We will see how the two play out over the long season as I plan on doing new weekly runs of both systems for Twitch.

Thanks again, CBLCardinals!

*** UPDATE ***

Hey gang!
v3 is now available! Main updates on this set:

- Updated some of the current IL players (does not include any injuries after opening day - since this is an Opening Day roster set). Also updates for "ramp up time" for Blake Snell & Jordan Montgomery to about 3 weeks versus 6 weeks.

- Included more players for the MLB Draft that were missing. For example #31 overall prospect per Baseball America Kellon Lindsey has been added. I've also updated some of the colleges for top players.

- Increase to MLB draft prospect Charlie Condon, who is now the top prospect in the MLB draft. Possible 60 hit and power tool. Upgraded to a 60 FV prospect

- Some misc ratings/potential updates for a few players

- Updated International Amateur Free Agent creation modifiers to be .900. This seems to create WAY less superstars and more in line with roster set ratings/talents universe.

HAPPY 2024 EVERYONE!!!

Is that the same as the "Traditional OOTP Player Creation Modifiers" on the "Players" tab?

If yes, will reducing these modifiers also reduce the quality of future AI generated amateur draft classes?

And thanks again for the time and effort you put into these rosters!!!

Yes that is the place!

The first MLB draft class has a bajillion players so game should gen anyone.

You do bring up a good question….

I’d use the .900 modifiers for the International Am Free agents for certain…however long term that may need to adjust right before the game generates draft prospects. The haven’t tested that aspect long term. Hopefully the .900 works well for both IAFA and mlb draftees in future years.

You will need to enable that in settings

Right now it is disabled so AI would not move players all around as I would update and calibrate ratings/talents

Thanks!

Hey, I'm the fella who suggested the .900 modifier, so it's cool to see it be incorporated in your official set! I've been doing more testing on the new patch, and it seems like they increased the modifiers on the back end.
I've been using new updated player creation modifiers (in the screenshot) and it's been giving great results. As you can see from. the other pics, I filtered the lists to show only the ifa's from the last few years who are still in the minors. With the updated modifiers, the generated IFAs are coming in at a very similar potential to the ones that are already in the game. That doesn't mean that super prospects can't be generated, the game was still able to generate 80 potential prospects. It just helps to keep them in line with the IFAs already in the game, while still creating a few of those 'Juan Soto/Jackson Chourio' elite prospects.

What I haven't been able to test is how this affects the draft classes, but I'm sure the results are similar.
