relationship between 20-80 scale and WAR in other leages
https://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com...&page=glossary
According to the OOTP manual, OOTP uses a version of "fWAR" https://blogs.fangraphs.com/scouting...couting-scale/ And Fangraphs says 50 grade hitters will record WAR 2.0. It seems to work well in MLB of OOTP. However, it doesn't necessarily fit in other leagues except MLB. So I want to know how the correlation between 20-80 scouting scale and WAR is set up in other leagues like KBO or fictional leagues. Last edited by jiyongppp; 03-23-2024 at 11:15 AM. |

Why doesn't it fit in the other leagues?
The only factor I can think of would be season length, so just adjust the WAR totals by the percentage of games that are played compared to MLB. |

I'm unclear how this doesn't work in other leagues as well. I checked Japanese league numbers and they match with the table you posted for the most part. For example, Yamamoto posted a 7.0 WAR in 2023 and was a top starter. Also, Aren Kuri of Hiroshima Carp had a 4.5 WAR and is definitely an all-star caliber pitcher.

I checked KBO stats just now and they match your table as well. Erik Fedde was the top pitcher in the league with a 6.3 WAR and he was very dominant last season for the NC Dinos. Of course, using MLB relative, Fedde is not going to be much higher than a 40, but KBO relative, he would be a 65+ easily.

I think there is a bit of a difference from MLB. Should I think this is within the margin of error? |

In KBO, it is 144 games. If so, do I just multiply 162/144? Is the average regular hitter 56.25 grade in KBO? Last edited by jiyongppp; 03-23-2024 at 06:29 PM. |

So, 7.0 WAR in MLB becomes about 6.2 WAR in KBO. |

So, the average regular hitter(grade 50) record 1.8 WAR in KBO, right? (2.0*144/162) |

That's a good estimate. There is a slight margin of error since WAR is a much more detailed equation, especially for pitchers because of innings pitched, but your formula is good enough for these purposes.
