Combinator Confusion

So, combining cards makes them batter... but it also says that their rating will not go up.

I don't understand. How can it get better and not have its rating go up?

The overall rating will not increase. So a 59 overall combinator will be a 59 overall card no matter what combinator level it is. But the individual ratings on the card will change depending on the level.

What happens to the cards you use to combine? Locked? Gone?

As it describes on the page, cards used to attempt a boost are removed from your collection.

Apparently I am obtuse.

I don't understand how a card can get better without getting better.

Does it get better in some areas and worse in others? Or are the changes so tiny that they aren't enough to to move the needle?

Your 44 overall Jimbo McGillicuddy will remain a 44 overall, but his contact will go from 52 to 58, his avoidK from 32 to 37, etc.

Does that make sense? I imagine they decided not to have the overall rating change for simplicity's sake.

I get THAT, but isn't the Overall rating a reflection of the player based on his other ratings?

So when their ratings go up, their Overall should also go up.

Overall rating means nothing toward a card's playability. Like a '64 Mustang, you just gotta look under the hood.
