Player creation and the new ratings
So, when I manually created players in the old version, it was relatively straightforward, especially for hitters. I was probably doing things wrong, but for the raw numbers I basically normalized players to the average (100) ratings for the "neutral, modern Major League environment" (.265 BA, 28 XBH, 16 HR, 50 BB and 100 K). For splits, I just adjusted the ratings by the player's stats -- e.g., if a player struck out 10% less often against lefty pitchers, then his rating would be 10% higher. Pitchers were trickier, but I eventually came up with something that worked for me. As I said, this may have been wrong, but it was intuitive.
The average (400) ratings have been tweaked for the new version (.260 BA, 30 XBH, 15 HR, 50 BB and 110 K), but that's still pretty straightforward. What becomes trickier, however, are the splits. If a player strikes out 10% less often against lefty pitchers now that the scale is no longer linear, how do I model that for the new game? For example, if the player is average vs. righties, it doesn't seem like his rating vs. lefties should be 10% higher (440). Should it still be 10 points higher (410)? Some other modifier? Some kind of sliding scale? I need to know before I start player creation in OOTP25, as well as confirm whether the import of my OOTP24 game went off with minimal hitches. Any and all input is welcome!
