Concerned About OOTP 25

First off, I just want to say that I love OOTP and have already preordered 25. But the rollout for 25 has me concerned and, judging from the comments I’ve seen here and elsewhere, I’m not alone in this.

OOTP has never had big or flashy rollouts, but the devs have always been good about clearly communicating the major changes coming to the new version. There have always been some surprises left for release, but in general when preorders opened you had a pretty clear idea what the new version offered. This year’s announcement only listed 3 new features (the dev lab, the HOF license and a PT mode). What’s more worrying is that we haven’t gotten a trailer and none of the reveal streams even showed any images.

I’m hoping you guys just hired a new marketing guy who doesn’t have a hang of the job and that this won’t reflect the game’s quality or the way future releases are done (although if you’re committed to making reveal streams the new way of disseminating info, y’all need to comb your hair, fix your lighting/internet and come with more images/info and less empty platitudes).

But after last year’s release, I’m nervous this is a sign of things to come. The fact that there is no trailer or gameplay footage has me concerned this will be another year where the game is broken upon release. I really hope we’ll be able to start long term saves as soon as the game is released, but I’d be lying if I said I thought that would be the case.

So I'm worried, and it feels like that’s an incredibly common feeling across the fanbase.

TL;DR

1. This year’s road to release has been awful, with very little information provided and much of what has been provided came from (respectfully) amateurish reveal streams.

2. In the context of the last couple of releases, this lack of information/footage can’t help but make me concerned that we’re in for another rocky release.

I get it. I think that most of the improvements were under the hood for 25 and that the UI and 3-D part is mostly unchanged - so there's not much to show in terms of a trailer that wouldn't look too much different than OOTP 24. I would love to see the stadium creator improved but don't see that happening anytime soon. Just my thoughts.

I am not concerned at all. In fact, I am sure this will be the best launch ever, especially considering we have been starting the Beta in early December, months earlier than at any point in history of the game.

And on the topic of more information, we will release this soon, after all we still have 2 weeks left to build up excitement. And as susual: Nobody forces you to pre-order, the same discount and bonus will be available during launch week, so you'll have enough time to digest the reactions then and make a purchase decision

The bold has been true every year. Nobody has ever been required to buy the game "sight unseen". Potential buyers can wait for release, read what is being said on the forums or social media about the state of the game, then if they decided to buy still get the discount. It's a great policy that gets ignored by many.

My only concern is wrapping up my current season before the 15th so I am ready to import.

With a robust stadium creator I could see spending endless hours working on that, and might actually get me out of GM mode to watch the games more and savor it

This is definitely something that needs to happen. Hasn't really been updated in years and it bugs me when adjoining sections have different sized fans or that we can't customize ads. Folks have figured out how to do that for the MLB stadiums so wish the files were the same for fictional ones so we could do edits ads for them too.

I'm really not concerned. I think it's hard for the devs to explain what they've talked about because it's something you need to see. You need to see it in action like the ratings stuff. I think this release has more going for it than the last couple but I am biased cause the ratings stuff is something I've been yearning for.

I liked the days of old when we had a change list instead of long videos. They did put out an old school change list at some point after release for the last version.

There has to be a way to customize ads. Those graphic files have to exist somewhere. Of course it could mean that there is only one graphics file for all user created stadiums. And that is just not good. Sort of like the advertising files for the mlb stadiums.

The graphics for the 3d game is definitely in need of some work.

There has been so much added throughout the years, what drastic change is really needed?

I just like to have an easier way to add teams to an exhibition tournament. Importability from templates, entire seasons, WS winners or loser templates. Let the community build up different tournament templates to share.

What is inside the park baseball mode if I may ask?

BTW, this is the Leafs' year. I know it. Don't ask me how I know but I know.

It was a player development game sold in the past, but it did not last.

Leafs fans say this every year. Don't ask me how I know it, but it happens every year. But I would not mind seeing Toronto win it. Toronto would go NUTS!

So are you concerned about the game or are you concerned about their hair and the production quality of their streams? Because the two have nothing to do with each other and the fact that you go out of your way to mention the latter definitely makes it look like you don’t actually care so much about the former.

I’ll admit I’m more of a casual OOTP player at this point, but this release seems right in line with the last several versions to me. They do a couple videos, they’ll post a complete change list right around the release date, and that’s it. It’s been a long time since they did a full Road To Release series with in depth coverage and screen shots of all the changes, mostly because there really aren’t that many changes to go over most years. Before they revamped the scouting and draft process a few years ago it’d been a very long time since the last time there was really any noteworthy, game changing additions. It was all just graphic improvements, updated rosters, and PT or mobile version stuff. The fact that this post is coming when we’re getting a massive addition like the Development Lab and a major reworking of the ratings, probably two of the three or four biggest changes in the last decade, is…curious, to say the least.

Not concerned at all

I can't really remember a time when games was unplayable upon the release, but I'm not the one to spend my time creating stadiums, uniforms & such. I will be moving back to my love of this game & that is franchise creation & playing seasons out very much more than PT, especially bc playing in leagues such as a Gold league when there's rarely a chance of any Gold cards being in it is meh. And that can be said of every league created. Why label them with Diamond, Gold, Silver or anything else when any and all cards are accepted. I mean there are tournaments designed for certain cards only, so why not leagues. And that has convinced me not to participate like I have been & could care less about the haters that's gonna hate on me for saying so. Good luck to all on new version. I will be loving on it on PC & G025 for tablet
Peace Out To All
