waive, DFA, waive/DFA
I have a player I want to move down to AAA to free up a spot on my active roster, that player is out of options, I'm fine with keeping him on my 40 but I don't want to lose him, is Waive/DFA my only option?
Edit - If I don't need to waive a player, why would I only DFA him? Last edited by 84Cubs; 02-04-2024 at 02:26 PM. |

The manual says something to the effect that DFA only is a place to put a player while you make up your mind what to do with him. Perhaps like you have a pending trade involving him, are waiting on a reply, and don't want him on the active roster.

If a player is out of options, the only way to have a shot at keeping him is to waive and DFA. That removes him from the 40 man and then he sits on waivers for 3 days. If no one claims him, you can then assign him to AAA but he will be a FA at the end of the season and would have to re-signed to a ML contract.

If you're playing in commissioner mode and don't want to follow the actual MLB rules, use the option to waive the player and designate him for assignment. Then, go into the player's profile, use the editor, and find the check box for "has cleared waivers" (or something similar to that). If you check that box while he is on waivers, then he will no longer be on the waiver wire, and you should be able to demote him without losing him.
I found this option a few years ago when I made a mistake with my roster transactions and needed to find a way to correct it. |
