Popularity of Standard vs Customization vs Historical etc.?

I wonder how many, what percentage, of people play FHM standard vs customization vs historical etc.?

Is there any statistics about that?

Which is more popular?

Normally for me: standard, custom, historical.

However decided to do a Blue Jackets historical one starting in 2002. But aside from that, I personally have no interested in games back in the 50's or 60's.

Does it matter, the cool thing about FHM is the ability to play all sorts of ways and do your own thing.

Edit *Forgive the tone of this. I just think perhaps you are asking this to make sure you can highlight a certain way of playing to the developers in an effort to get more time/resources devoted to your preferred way of playing. I've seen a lot of posts like this one on Reddit for games like FHM.

Never play historical but I play a hybrid standard/custom game as I add fictional expansion teams to the standard game.

Historical - I always start in 61. I was born in 56, so early 60's and 70's are my favourite era. It's very easy to get deeply immersed in a game from back then.

Such wonderful memories, makes me feel young again, even if only for a while

Do you put yourself in the game by creating a player with your name?

It fluctuates for me. I tend to spend a lot of time on one mode at a time and then switch things up but I like to play all 3 modes extensively. However, the slow sim speed for standard game makes it a lot harder for me to retain my attention.

in FHM9: 90% standard, 10% historical (only some challenges)
in FHM10: 60% standard, 30% custom, 10% historical

Thought about it a few times but happy to just go with the real players.

I was good enough to play pond hockey with my friends, but I was far from talented enough to play the game at a high level

I typically do full standard but spend a few hours editing the roster/database/nation player generation factors each save file, then I tend to expand to 36 teams by the 2030's. I really wish you could adjust the databases with a database editor instead so I didn't have to remake every change each file.

So you think you can read people's minds as to why they post comments?

Mostly standard but eventually it takes a very long time to sim from day to day to I'll start a historical from around 1980. It just flies since there are less things running simultaneously.

I've never tried custom. I see a lot of bug reports about it too so maybe I'll wait a bit before trying that mode.

Pretty much only historical for me. Current day bores me the minute fictional players get in. If I want created players, I'll do custom which I don't have a problem doing, but there's just something about mixing real players with fake ones that doesn't appeal to me. When I play I need 100% real players or 100% fake players.

I usually create challenges for myself in historical settings. Last year I started with the Whalers the year they joined the NHL and I wanted to win back to back cups before moving to Carolina, which was sadly fairly easily done. I think I was done by 1986 or so. Probably boosted my team by fleecing the Oilers by trading Mark Howe, a First Round Draft pick and the rights to Hakan Loob for Mark Messier, Glenn Anderson and Paul Coffey.

This year a viewer of mine gave me the hardest challenge I've faced so far playing this game...to turn Alexandre Daigle into a HOF starting with the year he first joined the Sens...

This might be the first time I end up not beating a challenge. I picked the FHM development engine praying for some luck. I might have to sacrifice a baby unicorn under a full moon though.

This bugs me too but I am OK to a point especially when I get a great player who is a world beater or even turns a franchise around. It is easier to accept in OOTP since the draft classes don't fall off a cliff after 3-5 years.

I end up editing names with a "(F)" (for fictional) after them so I know who is real and who is not When about half the players have that notation, I usually move on to football manager or something else before coming back and restarting my save.

Couldn't agree more! I started an Historical Challenge mode; where my goal is to take the Kansas City Scouts to the playoffs. It great to see some of my hockey heroes again! Good memories!
