After today's patch, I started getting those types of messages in my inbox

That looks like the news headers data has been damaged in the save. If you start a new game, does the news appear normally there?

I just started a new game, the error messages are still there

Ah, that's sounding like something went wrong with the update process and broke one of the data files. If you're playing the Steam version, go to FHM10 in your library and right-click, select Properties, and then go to "Installed Files" and select "Verify integrity of game files". If you're playing the Fastspring version, re-download and reinstall the update. Both of those should fix any corrupted data you've got - when you re-open the save, you may still see those messages for previous news, but new ones should generate OK.
