Auto-calc modifiers question

It would appear that my league batting avg. as well as league ERA has gone down or stayed the same the last 5 seasons. I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing as I generally want the league stats to stay the same. Under league totals where is says "total's from year" Do I have to select the year I want every year season? For example (2019) or just hit auto-calc modifiers like I've been doing during pre-season? I'm just making sure I'm doing the right thing and what has happened the last 5 seasons is just variance or something.
