Seems Like My Ace Has Lost It

What do you see? He was ok at times in his last start and the defense did him no favors but he has been bad in 5 of his last 7 starts. I can trade him for a prospect but I am not sold that the prospect is as good. I am fighting for 1st place in the division. I am in early July.

I might be misreading it, but from the first image it looks like he's currently on pace to have the best season he's ever had?

I admittedly have trouble evaluating fictional players, especially ones with overwhelming ratings like these. That’s probably my lack of imagination, as I reach for a real player as a comparator. That said, he’s throwing an awful lot of pitches, and I wonder if he is wearing out as the season progresses. He’s a little wild, leading to baserunners and more pitches.

Do you use the widget for pitch location, speed, and type? I don’t play pitch by pitch, but I do rely on that screen to help me analyze pitchers’ performance. For example, it tells me how far off the plate the balls are thrown. Also, I swear you can tell a guy is losing it, when strikes are thrown out over the plate where hitters can get full extension and barrel up on them. Not sure if it’s the game engine or happenstance, but pitchers nearing 100 pitches in a game may noticeably lose velocity and location. I take that as a signal to pull them.

If you take away the two outings where he didn’t survive the third inning, real stinkers, the rest of his performance is fine, after a slow start. No idea how to analyze those lousy starts. No clue how a guy with these elevated ratings could give up 9 runs and ten hits in 2.1 innings. But I would have given him the hook long before that. Some days guys just don’t have it.

The good news is, even with those few awful outings, his WHIP, HR, K are in line with past performance. The walks are up. So, if anything, it’s a control issue, and maybe too many pitches thrown. Stamina of 82 is not the highest. He is on pace for considerably more than the 200 innings that he has averaged in past (very good) years. So, I’d throttle back on usage. I’m hoping you have a good bullpen.

Pretty sure you're looking at 2036. The current season is 2038.

My pen was exhausted and I had 2 banged up MR. Some times I just want to see if they can get it together and give me more innings before I kill my pen.

He's right and I hadn't even looked at his projected. 20-5 3.82 226 IP 22 HR 95 BB 269 K . Some of will be career highs.

Pelican, I turned on the widget. I'll use it for awhile at least.

Looks like 2036 was a 198 IP, 6.5 WAR season, and he's currently on pace for 226 IP with 6.7 WAR. I would be valuing him as one of the top pitchers in baseball for the rest of the season.
