Major Development Problems for Players with No Remaining Historical Stats
For many years, when historical players ran out of statistics for recalc in historical games, their player ratings would remain the same indefinitely. A few years ago, this was changed by allowing the development engine to take over once their stats run out, but this feature is not working correctly.
In a recent test, I discovered that players who have no more stats in the historical database do not develop the way they should based on their age and other factors. Some still play far into their 40s or even their 50s, with ratings that don't change or only change minimally.
The single biggest example is Sandy Koufax, who retired in real life at the age of 30. He can continue to pitch in OOTP for another 20 years, past the age of 50, with his ratings at the very highest levels in all of MLB. However, even some players who retired in their late 30s suffer from the same problem. Their ratings can stay the same or virtually the same for many years into the future, and, if they decline, it is often minimally.
We really need to ensure that the development engine works 100% exactly like it would normally work for fictional players. Players who have no more historical stats for the current season or future seasons should develop and decline exactly like any fictional player would develop. Otherwise, we end up with these skewed and unrealistic results.
Here is a post where I shared a number of examples from my recent test. Other historical recalc players are seeing the same results in their games.
