Cincinatti 2002-: Nothing to Something?

THE CINERGY HERALD (REDS FANZINE)

Boone Fired...Replacement Lined-Up

Cincinatti Manager, Bob Boone, was fired by the Cinicnatti Reds franchise last night.

A number of reasons, centring around Boone's inability to rebuild the Reds have been cited in the official press release.

Veteran Shortstop and team-leader, Barry Larkin, spoke on behalf of the players last night. 'This is an unfortunate situation. The front office made it hard for Bob - the players feel that he has been made the fall guy for our situation'.

As far as news on his possible replacement, Buffallo Bisons Manager has been implicared. Bisons are the AAA affiliate of the Reds' neighbours, the Cleveland Indians.

was unable to comment last night...

THE CINERGY HERLAD

Indians AAA Manager Named New Reds' Coach

As reported by the Herald five days ago- manager of Cleveland's AAA team - has been named new Cincinatti manager.

This appointment comes as a shock to many Buckeyes, despite fantastic record with the Buffallo Bisons last season.

One Cinicantti fan commented, 'this appointment is another example of the suits at Cinergy ruining our club. This new manager is a no-name with zero Major League experience. The owners don't take their own club seriously'.

Cincinatti went 66-96 last season, and faces an uphill struggle if the Reds are going to improve this year...

Well, this is an OOTP4, 2002 on-the-fly dynasty report. Feedback, advice, suggestions...it's all welcome.

I hate to be picky, and I love the idea, but to do a Dynasty report on the Reds, you need to spell Cincinnati correctly. Other than that, it looks great so far.

Very nice, plenty of info, and some unique trades at the beginning. Most folks trade for the Teixeiras of the world, but I like people that don't try to get all the good youngsters. Interested to see how David Cone does.

WEEK ONE...

CONE TO RETIRE...

Veteran pitcher David Cone has decided to give up the game after this 2002 season.

Cone has won 193 career games - and will be looking to make it 200 this year in his first - and now only - year with the Reds.

He has won 20 games twice in his career - one time with each New York club.

Although not a Hall of Fame-type player, he is fondly remembered in various cities around the MLB landscape, and will no doubt be sorely missed by the game in general.

CINERGY HERALD MATCH REPORTS

Chicago Cubs 0 @ Cincinnati Reds 2

Bringing in Jeff Suppan certainly looked a good decision by the Reds last night.

He shut out the Cubbies on just three hits - just his third shutout in his career.

Cinci roped just four hits (Dunn, Boone, Walker, Suppan) including an Adam Dunn homer. Suppan himself added the other RBI, completing a great all-round performance with some pitcher magic.

Chicago Cubs 4 @ Cincinnati Reds 1

The offense just didn't work for the Reds in this game.

Wilton Guerrero had a homer, and Brady Clark chipped in with two hits.

Chris Reitsma gave up four runs in eight innings, whilst Josh Riedling pitched one hitless inning.

Chicago Cubs 4 @ Cincinnati Reds 1

It was deja vu all over again for the Reds last night after they went down by three at Cinergy.

The Reds managed six hits last night, including a soloshot from Jason LaRue

Jose Acecvedo pitched 6.2 innings, giving up four runs. Scott Sullivan and Josh Riedling pitched 2.1 scoreless innings between them, giving up just one hit.

Montreal Expos 4 @ Cincinnati Reds 3

A close game last night, but the Reds' losing streak slipped to three.

Brady Clark smashed a solo shot, and Guerrero and Dunn also roped RBIs.

Sidney Ponson had a promising debut start for the Reds - giving up one run in five innings.

However, Scott Sullivan's 1.1 innings came at a cost of two earned runs - and he was charged with a loss.

Montreal Expos 2 @ Cincinnati Reds 7

The Reds looked good last night, as Jeff Suppan went 2-2 for the Reds.

He only gave up two runs in 8.1 innings, and Scott Sullivan closed out the game, giving up one hit.

Adam went deep twice, including a solo shot and a two run bomb - providing most of the offense.

The Reds had 15 hits, including three from hero Ken Griffey Jr.

Weekly Record: 2-3

Overall Record: 2-3

Positiion: 3rd

NEXT WEEK: REDS TAKE ON THE EXPOS, PIRATES, PHILS

Not bad, not a bad start at all. Jeff Suppan has been fantastic, wouldn't you say? Ponson had a good start, too. Josh Riedling has been solid as well. Just wait for the offense to come around!
