Draft signing issue

I started a custom fictional league. 32 teams in each league: Majors, Minors and Juniors. I had the first pick in the entry draft (July 7th) after having the worst record in the first season. I went to sign this player and I can't because the game says that "This player cannot be signed because he is currently under contract in the JHL (the junior league) and the CAHL (the major league) honors JHL contracts." The player has two seasons remaining on his junior contract, which means I won't be able to sign him next season either.

In real life, the NHL team would be able to sign this player to an entry level contract. Why can't I? I don't see anything editable on July 1st to change this.

I think I see the problem. The Junior League was not connected to the Major league upon creation. Is there any way to connect them now?

I ran into this problem too with a fictional league and a draft pick. The option to buy out his contract is grayed out. But, my leagues are linked.

I set up a fictional 6 team NHL league with 2 levels of minors and a connected junior league and it works for me. However, I can only sign drafted players who still have junior eligibility left between June 23 and August 31. After that date I cannot sign them until the next summer. Are you perhaps trying to sign them outside of that window?

I'll try that when I get there. It's December now so might be a few days

So I tried on July 1 and still getting the message "This player cannot be signed because he is currently under contract (development league) and (top league) honors (development league) contracts."

I drafted him (top draft pick), he's 19 and old enough for my league, and dominating the development league. He'd easily be a top six player for me.

You say development league? Do you mean junior league or is that something different you created. I was using a junior league connected to my pro league with player ages between 16-20. I set my pro league to allow 19 year old age minimum and my draft is 19-21 year olds. It lets me sign drafted junior players but only in that window of late June until the end of August.

I wonder if your development league is something different from a connected junior league?

Sorry, I call it the development league. It's my reserve league or farm team league. Each team is connected to the major league and I can send players down etc. (AHL or ECHL) But they also sign their own players, some of which are draft picks. The last three number one draft picks are playing in the league for a team that signed them that isn't their drafting team's farm team. All of the other draft picks seemed to be signed fine by me and the computer controlled teams.

So right now my first round draft pick has a five year contract in this lower league that I can't buy out, trade with, or simply offer him a contract to join the major league.

I don't get it, but I'm convinced there is a rule I don't understand or a box I didn't check somewhere when I set this league up. Or maybe its a bug but more likely user error is my guess.
