Resigning player

Hi Jeff,

I just noticed that when I traded for a player and got the other team to retain some of his cap, when I go to renew his deal, he forgets the total value of his original deal and bases his request for a new deal on the cap number that he has with me....

I traded for Alex DeBrincat and got Detroit to keep 20% of his 7.875mil/year caphit and when I went to renew his deal he was asking for a slight increase of the 6.3mil/year cap hit that he had with me, while in his prime....

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but it feels like it....

I can see how that'd happen, given the way we handle retained salary. I think we retain enough data about the contracts to figure out a way around the problem, though, so I'll see what we can do.

Had this happen when the AI resigned a player. 9mil/year contract but only a 900k cap hit.

this is in 2031...

Can you upload that save? This one looks like something different - the cap reduction after a retained-salary trade is a single event and there's no subsequent record of it, so there should be no way for it to reduce what the cap hit on a later contract will be.

That's an old bug - the workaround is to move him back to D temporarily until he accepts the offer.
