spring training

I haven't had ootp24 too long and after finishing last season, i'm in spring training again. I used to be able to pick what stadium I wanted to play the game in. It's not giving me the option in pregame settings. Am I missing something?

Thanks

All games are played in the spring training stadium. No other option.

all the other versions could pick where to play spring games, stats don't come into play, what possible reason is there for playing in one generic stadium? It's one break from the tedious task of going thru sixty players to get to your starting lineups, doesn't make any sense

I haven't been able to pick since they added the ST ballpark. Not sure what version that was. I believe it's so you're playing in warm weather and not in cities that could be having snow or rain (conditions that can lead to more injuries).

Some users have posted in the suggestion thread asking they add real ST locations and stadiums. Maybe someday? To me it's 28 games to prepare my team for the regular season. IOW while real/more stadiums in real locations would be nice it's not something I lose sleep over. Of course YMMV.

Yeah I'm one of those ST fanatics. You struck a nerve. Most years I try to end up in Florida in order to see games. Nothing like seeing young prospects and lazy veterans in stadiums about the size they were in MLB more than a hundred years ago. Baseball paradise.

So I'm unhappy we can't add and choose actual Spring Training parks. It's not a lot to ask, IMHO. All I can do is fiddle with the dimension to the ST Park, to make it suitably funky, for who cares about skewed results in the Spring?

Also, the default schedule is bogus in that [1] there is no interleague play; and [2] it ignores the difference between Florida and Arizona teams. One of these years, I'm going to redo the schedule to correct both errors. And then I guess I'll need to learn how to export a schedule, for the rest of you's.

On the Spring schedule, one of my annual delights is the series played on the weekend before Opening Day, when the teams are on their way north. You know, the Bay Series between the Giants and A's (soon to be the Bay/Desert series, with the A's in Las Vegas). Or the Dodgers and Halos. Orioles and Gnats. Mutts and Yankees. Marlins and Rays. Or neutral sites like New Orleans or Charlotte or Nashville. I add these every year.

And [OCD kicks in], why not have the ability to play "B" games during the Spring? Really, no different from the minor leagues. If we're trying to simulate reality, the veterans don't go on the road for bus trips. And young rookies may get their moment first in morning "B" games. Again, I could incorporate them into my schedule, if I had unlimited time (I don't). I usually manage to schedule a few B games for my own team.

Playing with the development engine, no recalc, real trades off, and high TCR, Spring results can be real clues to breakout seasons - and breakdown seasons. And there are injuries. Guys learning new positions. Everyone should go through the ritual and trial of cutting rosters down to 28 (I use 28 through April or May, rather than inflating roster in September during the pennant races.) Good teams are forced to DFA guys, and bad teams can pick up bargains.

Maybe what we need (hint, hint) is a Spring Training thread to discuss these and other ideas and changes.

For a game with the MLB license whose main goal is to simulate real baseball, the spring training side is severely lacking.

Yes, a true to life spring training model is something that’s been on my list of improvements for some time now. Each year it just gets completely ignored however.

Hah I learned “you’s” from my Pittsburgh cousins. In Philly they say “you’ns”. Most of my cousins got tired of Pennsylvania Winters and moved south, and now they say “y’all”.

Anticipating “deja vu all over again” with 25, once it’s out, I promise to begin work on that Spring schedule, with interleague play, Florida and Arizona separate, B games, and the traditional series the last weekend. But I’ll need help from modders on the Spring stadiums.

I just want the roster size limit to kick the day after the last spring training game so DFAs/waivers can be settling before opening day.
