players from minor league system disappear

I have been managing a fictional team in a league for about 15 seasons. I decided to let the ai control all aspects of the team and just sim a few seasons. After one season I got an error message that a minor league game couldn't be played because there weren't enough players. I discovered that one of the other teams AAA affiliate had been somehow taken away from it and given to another team. all the minor leagers in the entire organization were gone. though on the Teams home page it showed the top 3 prospects were on the AAA team they are no where to be found. though if Clicked on the players page and demoted him he suddenly shows up on the AA teams roster. I was ready to start a new league anyway but I thought this was really bizarre and was wondering if anyone had seen anything like this?
