Nation Editor, delete cities
Starting a new save, based in a fictional country and I am using the in-game Nation Editor. I started with Norway, changed its name and then changed the names of lots of the cities. That has all worked really well, but I am left with a quantity of Norwegian cities that I don't need and I can't find a way of deleting them. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Editing the world_default.xml file in an xml editor would probably be the easiest way. You can modify and delete to your heart's content.
Should probably make a backup of it first though.

Thanks very much, snepp. I was trying to avoid that, but I can certainly give it a try that way.

It looks like doing it that way means starting the process all over again and possibly re-starting the league, which I don't really want to do. Can anyone say if it's possible through the "Explore World" > Nation Editor route. The good thing about that is that it lists the cities in order of population, and I was able to re-name the ones with the largest population - but, as I said, that leaves me with quite a number of cities that are surplus to requirements and I would like to delete them.

You can edit the XML file and then import it into the existing league without re-starting. I do this all the time. It's possible a really extreme edit might break something, but mine continues to work even when I have deleted countries that existing players come from. They just show up with a blank country.
You do want to recheck your leagues after import to make sure they have the same Nation and region they are supposed to. You import the XML file under Game->Game Settings->Database->Database Tools->Re-import world database from XML file. I recommend making a backup of the original XML file (just in case). Also, until you manually re-import the file this way, editing the XML file won't have any impact on the game. The game only imports the XML file at the time of creation of the new game. |

Fleet, what do you use for an XML editor? I've only dabbled a bit and have been using XML Notepad.

For general XML editing, I use Notepad+ Having said that, if you go to the Mod forum on Nations, there is nifty program out there that is designed to make it easy to modify a world. I haven't used it, but it would likely have save me a lot of hours of program if it had existed when I started messing around. |
