Sleep would not be a problem if I was a Mets fan.

I'm looking forward to a postseason w/o endless pitching changes and the subsequent eternal 2nd guessing from commentators.

Human error is a part of human judgement, which is the very essence of the game. (Swing or take? Run or hold?) To equate it with salmonella is, well, sickening.

(Okay, that's hyperbole. But the pun was just sitting there, as it were.)

Sports is better enjoyed live, not taped.

And I don't equate it to salmonella.

I do think the for some reason popular "I prefer more mistakes" rationalization one of the lamest excuses I've ever heard. That is never used in just about any aspect in life. You want your pizzeria to get 3 of your 5 toppings correct instead of all 5? Cause, you know, error is part of life. You want surgeon's success rate to be 90% over 98%? Cause, you know, error is part of life. You want 80% of your paycheck instead of 100%? Cause, you know, error is part of life.

Its an asinine take. Sorry to be so blunt. I can take people just saying they like tradition. But making up a phony excuse that mistakes are preferrable is trying to find justification for a position you know isn't based in logic, but sentiment. And again, sentiment is fine. It's not right or wrong. But the "I like everyone trying their best to only have one nimrod screw it all up due to their incompetence/bias/humanity" position is just asinine.

In the AL, three team, Toronto, Seattle, and Texas, are fighting for the final two wild card spots and are separated by just a half-game, with only 9 games left for Toronto and 10 games remaining for Seattle and Texas.

In the NL, three teams, Chicago, Miami, and Cincinnati, are fighting for the last wild card berth, with only a half-game separating the clubs. Chicago and Miami have 9 games left, while Cincinnati has 8 games remaining.

Some of us can live with more mistakes if it means less technology subverting the game.

I totally agree that sports are best enjoyed live, preferably at the stadium with a $14 beeer. But just now I am in Greece, seven hours ahead of Eastern Time, which means night games are played in the middle of the night (early morning) for me. My sports scores app gets confused which day is which. I’m reduced to highlights. We’ll still be here when the Wild Card round begins, and I will be the guy streaming games at 4:00 am. Mrs. Pelican is not going to be amused.

Like most people, I don’t like being proved wrong. I was 100% opposed to the pitch clock, as a traditionalist. When I attended the opening day game for Phillies Spring Training, it seemed intrusive and unnecessary. And I was wrong. Once everybody adapted, the clock has reduced the time of games, without affecting the baseball. And a younger generation (i.e. my kids) notices and approves.

Now, if we could just eliminate the zombie runners and three-batter minimum once and for all, I’d be a happy camper. It’s the first thing I change in any modern OOTP season. Along with setting the use of Openers to zero. Take that!

And like I said, if for sentimental reasons you want to keep the human umps, I get it. Don't agree. But I get it. That's a legit reason a person can have to keep the status quo. "More mistakes are better", isn't legit.

Only 3 series left...........

.....Houston has got to feel this is their weekend to break from the field. They currently have an identical record w/Toronto, half a game ahead of the Rangers & Mariners. Tex hosts Seattle, Toronto heads to Tampa, who still is within reach of Baltimore. While those butt heads, Houston welcomes KC.

.....Both the Twins & Brewers can clinch their divisions tonight......

......In the NL, what was once a 5 team race for the final 2 WC's is down to 4 w/SF falling under .500. Miami & Chicago are tied for the final WC. The Reds sit a half game out & Arizona is 2 games above them. Unfortunately, none of the 4 play each other down the stretch. So there is going to be a lot of scoreboard watching these last 10 days.

Acuna is only 25. He has a long way to go to make it to the HoF.

Well, I suppose Madison Avenue is happy that somebody enjoys sitting through their commercials, 3 minutes at a time.

But, to quote Bob Dylan, "It ain't me, babe; it ain't me you're looking for." IMO, the skip-ahead button is one of the great inventions of all time, right behind air conditioning. (Bless you, Willis Carrier.) JMO.

Some would argue for the refrigerator being up there.

Every decision made means dealing with the pluses & negatives that come with it. I'd rather deal w/ads & see the game in real time rather than skip the commercials and have the suspense potentially ruined.

I find it odd that people who hate waiting out commercials don't hate waiting on batters scratching themselves, stepping out to spit, endless mound visits & bringing in pitchers to throw to one batter.

I find it odd that people who would claim less joy from baseball if we had robo umps because it is technology interfering with the game don't mind dvr technology to manipulate their enjoyment of the game.

Because the 30 minutes that were cut out were not baseball, it was the stuff in between baseball.

I cannot wrap my head around why people cannot grasp that concept.

It is the reason why some people pay more for Netflix without ads.
I mean, you love the shows on Netflix so wouldn't people want to spend more time there?
Well the ads are not your show, they are the stuff in between your show.
So some people choose to cut them out.

Baseball did the same. And is a better sport and product for it.

Not to mention for us older fans it is returning the game to what it used to be. It's not changing baseball, it's taking the game back to where it used to be. You know, players playing the game

Given that ad-based tiers provide more revenue, expect the price of the ad-free tier to escalate rapidly in the coming years.

It's a double-edged sword, however, because those ads help pay for what is being broadcast. Without that revenue, broadcasts will diminish.

Nobody's comparing baseball to commercials. They're comparing the non-baseball stuff like stepping out of the batter's box on every pitch and adjusting and re-adjusting your batting glove a few times or pitchers walking around the mound or taking their sweet old time between pitches. That stuff is not baseball - even if it's done by baseball players during a baseball game. That stuff is an unnecessary time suck. The pitch clock has removed 30 minutes of that stuff from the average game. And, according to coaches and players and a whole lot of people way smarter than me, the gameplay that remains is largely unaffected.

Do you miss the 30 minutes of guys adjusting themselves or stepping out over and over and over again or taking a minute between pitches? I ask this seriously because that's the stuff the pitch clock has eliminated.
