Now you see one of the top 2 reasons I root against all NYC teams. The apple media balloons its importance whenever it is involved.

Like 9/11. Now I'm not exactly glued to the TV these days, but all I heard was about NYC and the affects on it. One cut about the Pentagon. Nothing about those brave passengers who down the plane in Pennsylvania. NYC is the center of their world & they expect the rest of us to revolve around it.

I'd say the Jets have the same issue. How many points is a Zach Wilson led Jets offense going to put up?

It's a good thing the Cowboys had the Giants to warm up with. Because that Jets D looks a lot better than what they faced in week 1.

They lose, forty to nothing. 40-0! A draw-dropping beginning of the season. The farce that is the New York Giants continues.
The Giants have some bad luck with offensive lineman. First it was Eric Flowers, now it's Evan Neal doing his best impression of Eric Flowers. How is he this bad? He's getting beat by DEs that are 3rd and 4th in the rotation in Dorance Armstrong and Chauncey Golston. Either way, I haven't been this happy since opening day of 1995.

I'm pretty sure it was the 2022 draft when Evan Near was drafted at #7. Dallas drafted Tyler Smith at #24. Goes to show just how much luck is involved in day 1 picks.

NYG should be ashamed an opponent's DE has more concern about the health of their QB than they do.

We should all reflect on how and why this type of behavior has become so prevalent these days. It's not just social media, though that certainly provides the amplification. It's our society, how we are raised as children, and how we are instructed as adults to indulge ourselves, no matter what the consequences.

If we're comparing racial relations going back decades, I don't think there's any question that they have improved. Significantly. That said, given how social media has given every knucklehead - from entertainers to politicians to influencers to whoever else - a voice (and the belief that their thoughts, opinions, rants and insults actually matter enough to be shared), combined with the more-recent trend towards lack of tolerance of others' socio-political beliefs & opinions, it's not surprising that racial insults (and the like) would uptick along with a lack of civility in general.

IOW - and we see this in sports and have discussed it here - we have been trending towards total classlessness for awhile. So it's - unfortunately - natural that race-relations would get sucked into the trend, even though it is still so much better than it was.

I think there's an argument that racial relations haven't improved nearly enough. Although you are correct that with social media every person thinks their opinion is worth more than everyone elses regardless of how much or little educated they are. People tend to look for people to confirm their own opinions for the most part on social media not for people that challenge them.

What gets me is that w/such harrassment so easily done online & electronically, why hasn't security tried to keep up? There should be some way to trace back to the people who do such.

It's predominantly aimed at women and minorities, so the authorities don't take it that seriously

Reviewing Week 1:

Quote:
Green Bay (+1) at Chicago. W, +$75

Philadelphia (-3.5) at New England. W, +$75

Dallas (-2.5) at NY Giants. W, +$50
Two comfortable wins, one not so much. But I can't argue with 3-for-3, +$200

With the bankroll now at $1200, I will slightly increase my action, but only because I'm allowing myself an emotional play.

Green Bay (+1.5) at Atlanta. Oooh, so pulling away from Carolina in the second half, at home, that makes the Falcons a real team, is that the logic? Pack did the same thing, only better, on the road. Better team gets points against a bad team? Gets my bet. $90.

Arizona (+4) v. NY Giants. Yes, the Giants aren't 40-0 bad. Yes, the Giants will want to bounce back. No, Arizona is not the Cowboys. But…come on. You're going to lay more than a FG on a team that got curbstomped at home, flying across country after a SNF game, against a team in its home opener? Good luck with that. Redbirds for $75

NY Jets (+9) at Dallas. Oh, no! Aaron Rodgers is hurt! Oh, no, the Jets have to play…the QB who won all those games last season, who had a full week of practice. Backed by a defense that should never be 9-point dogs to anybody.

Yes, the Cowboys looked great. But we could score 40 on the Giants. And the Cowboys are a glamor team (like the Joe Namath Jets, back when), the type of club that parties a little too hard after a big win and doesn't exactly show up the next game. I'm not saying the Jets will win…but I'm saying they can win. Give me that and 9 points, and I'm in. J-E-T-S, for $75

And now for the emotional play.

Carolina (+3) vs. New Orleans. Okay, so part of this is just my trying to support the Panthers, and part of it is that I still hate Dennis Allen and Derek Karr. But Carolina was semi-competitive, Bryce Wilson will get better as the season goes along, and the Panthers have to win a few games sometime, right? At home, on Monday Night, vs a Saint squad that barely scraped by last week? Worth a shot. I say. $60.

Don't agree w/all your picks.

But I love your explanations for your takes.

Social media is a cesspool. Just 2% of people can ruin it for everyone else. Tracking it back accomplishes what? People are free to say what they want. Why would anyone spend money and resources to track people and nothing comes of it?

If I was a pro athlete I would not be on any social media.

No, you can. But it's probably not a good idea to send this thread into a political direction. I know it's not you that started it.

You can say what you want. But you can't make threats. And I think if people are bold enough to send it, then they should be brave to own up to it. We can't expect stuff like this to end if we aren't willing to make sure there are consequences to it. How much of these sewer scum would press send if they had any inkling their neighbors, employers & public in general knew what they said?

What a "shock". The Chargers are in another nail biter late.

How in the world could anyone be a Charger fan?
