The Babe

So, I've run 2 simulations from 1901 -> 1973...

In both, I've turned on a traditional amateur draft so as to break up the traditional dynasties a bit. In each, Ruth has finished with between 540 - 570 homers. Gehrig and Mantle have both had significantly higher numbers (obvious reasons as injuries were not as impactful). Most other players are similar to IRL, most pitchers are less effective (i.e. less 300 game winners, etc). Just found this interesting... and maybe further proof on how unique Ruth truly was...

Funny, I just posted this from my long-term Bucs save...

Pretty much identical to your experience.

Is this possibly a case of the real stats file under rating Ruth's top seasons?

No - it speaks to the uniqueness of Babe Ruth, nothing more. The only other player even remotely like him is Martin Dihigo, where the pitching and hitting parts of their career are two disparate parts.

It usually goes something like this - Babe hits fewer HR (and is a worse pitcher than IRL), Gehrig and Mantle get longer careers and so they hit more, Mays and Aaron usually perform roughly in line, as do McGwire, Bonds and those types from that era including Junior, Sheff and A-Rod. Sosa can go either way because of how ordinary he was pre-juicing and how extraordinary he was post-.

Try the same parameters but with neutralized stats. Curious if anything differs (small sample sizes notwithstanding).

The reason why there is less 300 games winners is because the game stop using them as starter fast when they reach their 30s... at least it's my memory of the time we didn't have real line up.
