Does age matter -- when to use player as DH

My St. Louis Cardinals are entering the spring training portion of their 2028 season.
Paul Goldschmidt, now 40, is still a productive first baseman,
But at his age would it better to play him at DH -- his defensive rating has dropped to 50, and I have a younger player who should also start also rated 50 -- to make best use of his stamina or doesn't that matter?

Players don't accumulate much fatigue playing 1B. Figure your best overall offensive/defensive choice and play that. If you have another player who is a better hitter than the kid make him the DH and Goldschmidt the 1B.

I've never seen any anecdotal evidence that age affects fatigue rates in OOTP. I would only consider age a factor when offering contracts

I was expecting this to go the route of "would he lose all of his fielding ability" -- But yeah at the age of 40, if his Defensive ability has already dropped to 50, I would expect him to be pretty brutal at 1B by the All Star Break anyways... So I don't think it'd be a bad move to DH him.

Especially since you probably wouldn't want your younger player to lose any of his ability at 1B (since it's damn near impossible to get it back)
