New day, new failure!
111, which means that if I hadn't gotten cute with Devil Rays ASG reps it might have been impressive. But I was all "I'm sure that Boggs got a legacy nod in one of his seasons" and…wrong. (I could have taken 100 shots at the 1998 Tampa All-Star and not hit it . Huh.) After that, I rather played it safe; the Blue Jays are all quite known, for example. And I could have done better than Foxx if I just trusted my instincts. Still, reasonable work. Except for that one fatal flaw. Feh. |

Today's effort. I screwed myself as my mind wandered. With Toronto and Oakland across the top both teams stuck in my head put in Dave Stewart. When the box stayed blank I thought WTF? Then realized my mistake
![]() I then posted another I knew played for both the A's and TB, leaving me out of guesses so TB/Toronto empty. I'll post a screen later tonight after everyone has had a chance to play. I did come up wit four players under 1%. Immaculate Grid 108 8/9: Rarity: 136 ⬜️🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩 Play at: https://immaculategrid.com @immaculategrid x @baseball_ref |

It was almost midnight when I was getting ready to crash last night... but I stayed up to midnight so the new Immaculate Grid posted. i didn't overthink it and populated it quickly, all correct.
My score was 900. Because, for that instant, I was the only respondent that had put in answers. It sorted after a refresh or two but I did enjoy seeing the dynamic nature of the score calculator at work. This morning it was more respectable 85.

I was lucky that there wasn't a Twins/Tampa intersection because when I saw them next to each other I immediately was ready to enter Rocco Baldelli.

I was impressed until I got to Edd Roush (1%). Such a bandwagon pick.
Obviously, I am joking. Very impressive. I do wish that they provided context on the distribution of rarity scores, as the grid itself is not necessarily the challenge (see: the high number of 9 correct scores, though that may be an over representation if people abandon a grid once they get one wrong and those attempts are not part of the recorded totals). Of course, no additional context is needed to recognize that 3 is a superior rarity score. |

Wow, 3 is excellent!
OTOH, I wrecked my game with two basic errors. 112 for the L. First I got cute, after being clever enough to use Roush as my Giant, I needed a Red and convinced myself that Sam Rice (after all those years in DC) spent his last season in Cincy. Nope, that was Cleveland. (If Ohio would let its cities start with letters other than C [looking at you too, Columbus!], I wouldn't have this problem.) And then, with my game wrecked, I got flippant and said "No Met fan wants to admit that Ruf-Bad-Dog! was ever on the team, so I'll be fine!" Thereby forgetting the legions of GIANTS fans out there who are happily laughing their asses off at how they fleeced us. Holy facepalm. Obviously I should have given Hobie Landrith his proper memorial, but we have found that I don't take bad news well. I mean, 101 isn't so much better than 112, but still. I need to work harder. Sigh. |

It looks like they have an immaculate grid for football now too. I definitely am not going to be getting cute with that one, just trying not to miss any.

Rose was a killer. I was hoping for a more recent player that would take some selections from Pete (didn't happen). FWIW I don't research online, except when I can see the guy's face in my mind, know his name as well as my own, but just can't come up with it. After filling my grid I did take a look at possible Reds. There was only one it the list that I could have possibly come up with, but it would have taken a while. In any case a 91 for Pete is better than a 100 for a blank box.

Now that there's a football one that's more up my alley I'll definitely be playing every day (the one on dynasty daddy sucks imo).
Immaculate Grid 1 8/9: Rarity: 257 ⬜️ Play at: https://immaculategrid.com/football @immaculategrid x @pfref Blanked on Eagles-9ers, guessed a certain quarterback that has played on like half of the teams in the league in his career but apparently the Eagles aren't one of them. Got sub-1% for Chiefs-Vikings (surprising to me, in my experience the player in question was a pretty famous NFL role player) and Atlanta 1,000 yard season (with a name that good I'd never forget he randomly got 1,000 yards once when all the other Falcons receivers got hurt). EDIT: Apparently the mobile copy/paste is bad :/ |

Grid 110
9/9, Rarity 127 I am a bit of a walking encyclopedia of baseball history but not so much when it comes to the current era. My kryptonite are the Diamondbacks, Rays, Rockies and Marlins. Whenever those teams show up on the grid, my chances of a really low rarity score are not good. I managed to do OK with the Rockies crosses today, but had to throw in the towel on Arizona and use Goldschmidt and Womack which cost me 100 rarity points.

Failure, as easy as 1-2-3. (123 rarity, in other words.)
Snakes. Why does it always have to be Snakes? I struggled to avoid using Goldschmidt in the obvious spot, dug deep for Womack there ("2b, named Tony…work, brain!") and then found myself completely in the pit on the AZ/SB slot, where, ironically, Womack was the best candidate. (2 of only 7 seasons that qualify.) I took a blind swing and struck out (Ketel Marte) and that was that. A pity, as the rest of the board was nice (check that beauty in the center square), but coming close isn't the goal. Sigh. BTW, starting Wednesday, the grid won't go up until 9.00 AM ET. On the theory we'll do better when we're awake, I suppose. As long as Westie hits those 2.00 PM CET naps, we'll do fine! ![]() Last edited by Amazin69; 07-21-2023 at 04:52 PM. |

That Hilgendorf was a sweet call. I used John Denny, but he's no Hilgendorf.

Fairly pleased with the result considering 4 of the categories only had a single digit player pool.
