Rookie Draft - In OOTP24 Forum this time
In my rookie draft pools, the rookies have sky high potentials. There are 18 players with 4.5+ stars and so many with potential 80 contact and 80 power. These would be hall of fame level players.... I would like to see some high potential players, but the amount is way too many. Why are they being scouted with such high potential?

20 rounds in the draft. Roughly 30 picks in each round. That's 500 players that get drafted.
18 out of 500 is really not a big amount at all. |

Idk, we are talking about projecting both Judge power and Tony Gwynn contact along with the eye for nearly 20 players. It does seem high to me. Are your rookies in the draft all projected like that?

Does your scout heavily favor tools? I think I saw this (or something similar) when I tried that out.

Favors tools. So you rookies aren't showing up with these kind of ratings? I'll screenshot it next time. I'm drafting all-star level (potential) players in the 4th & 5th round.
I don't know if they are supposed to be like this and then they come back to earth as they "develop" but I do like it better there are a handful of superstar level of guys to covet. OOTP 2017 was almost perfect about that - so that make me think there is something that I can tweak. |

I believe the first few seasons have real prospects in the draft and at an amount of prospects available are higher than the rounds created because of that. With players being on relative ratings the early drafts usually show a larger amount of "high end" players due to the total amount. I have also noticed with favoring tools seems to show more higher potentials.

this is an impossible question to answer without seeing your settings.
Can you post screenshots of your rules (league settings tab), players (league settings tab), and the players & team tab?

Also don't discount that a few versions ago OOTP implemented drafts with projections like you would see in the real world. Some users revolted because there weren't enough 70 and 80 rated players at the top of the draft. When shown this correlated with real life drafts? Well then it wasn't fun.
I do think WIUPIKE is correct about the "hand made" real amateur draft classes tending to have high ratings. As the game transitions to OOTP created players the ratings trend to more realistic numbers, but ratings that are still much better than real life. Just not as inflated as the default real life amateurs. |

Here's a very rough and unscientific table comparing scouts that favor ability vs tools. The numbers you see are from a fictional draft with 600 players. Example, the ability scout sees 115 (19%) players in the draft pool with 3 star potential and higher. The tools scout sees 159 (27%) players with 3-5 star potential.
Tools scouts tend to be optimistic and ability scouts are more pessimistic. It's really up to the user to decide for themselves which is better.

interesting, I am still early so the guys are real. Dollander turned into a multiple Cy Young winner in 3 seasons. Skenes has won a Cy Young and Dylan Crews is a perenial all-star. I guess develop quickly too. Maybe it will chill out after I get to fictional draftees

By posting in a thread, you should get notifications to the email associated with your screen name as a default. In 69, something changed where in Historic games, some minor leaguers are coming in overpowered. I wonder if it is happening in your game. I validated this post (below) by doing a 2017 sim in an earlier version (61, I think) and then in 69. Brito's scores jumped in 69 under the same parameters. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=348145
