"I'm not happy with my playing time."
Odd thing happened with contract negotiations for my beloved Bison. I made a trade for a good SP who (it turns out) wasn't playing all that much for his former team. He was in the last year of his contract, and as I have a fair amount of cap room, I made the trade with the intent of resigning the player - otherwise, I made a really bad, dumb trade.
So, I go to negotiate with the guy through my commish, and the man refuses to negotiate because he's not getting enough playing time. He's been in my rotation since I acquired him, and I can only assume "he's" looking at his IP total for the year (which is low) and not at his IP with the Bison (which is normal for a starter over two months of play). This blows, since I'm getting hosed on the trade I made (not the other owner's fault, at all, btw), and I'm not losing out because of anything I did w/r/t said player, but because of how his previous club was using him. Has anyone else seen this happen, and is there any way to fix the problem? |

This is hopefully something that can be looked at more closely in the future, the only thing I can think of is to see if one of the editors will allow for current season stats editing and inflate his numbers to see if that changes his mind. I don't even know if it is possible or would work but might help. Good luck.

If I was your commish, I would allow you to work out a deal in the FA market, where only you can sign him. Probally the only thing you can do now.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, but at the same time, I think it kinda sucks to ask for special treatment. I mean, wack stuff happens all the time IRL, why should the game be different?
I'll be a lot more careful about the attitude of the guys I trade for from now on, though, that's fo' shizzle. |

It actually happened to me when trying to re-sign a SP that I had. This player was actually on my team the whole year and missed close to half of the season due to injuries. When it came to re-signing this guy, he wouldn't sign due to lack of playing time. You could say that I wasn't exactly happy when I saw that.

Im with red door on this
Can you talk to the Commish about it, if I was a rival GM and saw that he HAS been in your rotation I would say its fine by me I know you want a technical fix, but wouldnt that suffice?

There is always hope that his continued playing time will mean he will negotiate before the season is over.
As a side note, I wonder if this also affects injured players. Player: "No way I'm signing here, I'm unhappy with my playing time". GM: " What do you expect? You have been on the disabled list since May." |

no Clarzz, that doesn't happen
I have injuries set on very high on my solo league and never had a problem signing an extension with a player after only 20 games played in August

Six of one, half dozen of the other. Although technically" it doesn't make sense, real people in real life don't make sense much of the time either. Code might be added eventually to look for all these possibilities - and I suppose that would make some happy... but I always do feel if we had code in ALL of these places that are questionable, we're back to the "predictability" Markus has tried so hard to avoid in this game.
I'm not really taking sides here, but I do think I would eventually become bored if the game results were always known before I started.... In this cas, as a GM, I would probably mumble "dumb ****" under my breath and go on....

Thanks for bringing this up. I had no clue this could happen. I better listen to those emails of guys complaining about playing time.

Start him every day for 14 straight games and see how happy he is.

I don't think it's a flaw in the game, exactly; but I think we'll all be more careful in the future about signing benchwarmers. I'm still pissed about the stuff I gave up for two months of this clown, though. Caveat emptor, I suppose. |

I hate that response. I had a starting pitcher who was in the rotation the ENTIRE SEASON who told me he was unhappy with his playing time. My response (to nobody but the computer) was - well, if you didn't stink so bad this year, maybe your IP total would have been higner!!
