Closers as Starters
Hey there folks!
I've noticed this in a few versions but the AI often loves plugging in pretty clear closers/set-up guys (i.e. Camilo Doval on the Giants) into a starter role despite pretty terrible stamina and a suggested role of "bullpen". Has anyone else seen this? Any way to get the AI to not do this? Thank you in advance! |

Are they using them as an Opener? Check their pitching staff page and see if those guys have (OP) next to their names.

I remember this being an issue a long time ago, but I haven't noticed it in this year's version.

Is the AI doing this because one of the team's starters is injured and therefore not available? I've seen examples this on occasions...had to do this a time or two with my own team...as it was a better option than a call up from the minors.
Is Doval classified as an emergency starter/long relief on the bullpen lineup? |

I see this happening with my team currently. If i use suggest rotation as a check to who Ithink should be starters compared to my coaches, I always get my closer put into the starting rotation. In all fairness, he has 4 75 and above pitches and one 50 rated pitch, but his stamina is 35 and his control is 40 which both seem low for a starter.

I appreciate the replies! In my experience it does occasionally happen due to injury (though there are arguably better options in the pen with starting stamina and pedigree) but it often happens out of the blue as well usually with a super talented closer.
They're not openers, they're usually in the rotation and throwing 5-6 innings. Definitely not as often as it happened in previous versions but it still pops up now and then. |

I think you can use the player strategy setting to lock him into the role of closer.
