Resting Up for Playoffs

The 1972 Kansas CIty Royals clinched first place with a little over a week left before the first round. Is it better to rest regulars and the starting pitchers or does OOTP have rust set in, similar to spring training? Thanks.

Rust isn't going to set in during a 1 week period. You can rest players.

That (no rust) has been my experience. Not that I have a great deal of experience with clinching early - or at all, LOL. With expanded rosters, you should have plenty of guys to put in the lineup. I would use the time to set up the optimal playoff rotation, and to rest the bullpen arms. But I would give the regulars a few at bats, and a few innings to the relievers. Really, it’s a lot like late in Spring Training. Just getting everybody ready for what’s next, without having to worry about winning games.

To me the important thing after clinching is to arrange the SPs so the post season starts with you using the #1 pitcher in the rotation and #2 rested for ;the second game. This might require having a RP start the last week of the season..

I followed Brad K's advice, rested for the playoffs, took the first 2 games and lost the third so far, but either way his thoughts were best.
