Preseason into Regular Season Roster
Still learning about hockey and I have a question regarding the preseason to regular season roster.
I will be heading into free agency and the draft soon. Can I have those guys up for the preseason and then send them down without having them go through the waiver process? Basically, is it free demotions at that time? I don't want to give extra guys the experience if I will be at risk of losing them when going down. |

For a quick/not so quick way to see who is/isn't waiver eligible in the pre-season (as they will all show as not waiver eligible from the main roster screen) you can view the 'contract' tab of each player and it will show in the upper left side the 'Waiver Eligible' followed by the year that they will be affected by waivers in parentheses.

Sorry, more rudimentary questions. I am going into my second year with the Kraken.
I inherited the rights to a bunch of players that I haven't signed to a contract. How did I get them? I am assuming draft picks but is it common not to sign your draft picks? Maybe not the budding stars, but later rounds? What sort of options will I have with draft picks? I will be drafting near the top so should have a chance to grab a top player. Do I sign that guy to a rookie slotted sort of contract? Maybe I consider playing him up but I would like the option to send him down, which I believe got answered earlier in this thread regarding the waiver year. Are there guys I simply don't sign yet hold their rights? I don't really understand this whole process yet and I don't want to make a big mistake in my first off-season. |

Once you draft a player you have their rights. You need to sign them to a contract(select two way, so you can pay them less in minors). You can sign whoever you draft, but sometimes its best to leave them in juniors to see how they develop. I wouldn't sign someone until they are at least one star. Once you have signed someone they will show in your nhl team but you will have the option to demote them to your farm team. The draft goes to a lottery, team with the worst 5 records go into a lottery to see where they end up, the rest in order of where they finished. For players you have signed, go to your team, then transactions, you'll see a heading called unsigned, thats where all your draft picks and players you hold rights to but not signed to a contract are. Also look at finances and salary obligations, that will help
