Historic teams have no money

I've started several historic leragues, 1994, 1977, 1987, and found that every team starts the season deep in the financial hole. No one can make trades due to lack of funds. Is there something amiss or is this correct?

I think I read that they were fixing in some patches the finance issue (I'm not sure if it was only for 2023 or also for historical seasons).

But one thing that I have noticed and that I have mentioned several times in the Historical DB bug reports is that many players have major service time when they should not have it (they have not debuted in RL as well as in the simulation) and therefore have a contract assigning in the MLB, this makes the payrolls of all teams are overestimated and therefore difficult to manage financially.

This hasn't been fixed in my sim v. 24.3.52
In 1988 no team has any money to take on new contracts, so there can be no trades other than with exact same salaries. The only fix I know is to use commissioner mode to change each team's finances (cash and budget).

Same Here

I've run 2 historical sims starting in 1871. Nearly all teams are broke in both sims. I've never run into this before.

I posted about this in the bugs forum a few weeks ago (scroll about half way down on first page of bugs forum thread). There were some replies from the developers about a possible patch, but the financials seems so flawed for historical leagues in OOTP 24 that I'm not convinced. Probably going to ask for a refund if patch doesn't work.

Long time lurker, created an account to actually post about this and I saw this thread. How could the financials be THIS bad? What changed from OOTP 23 to 24 to make this happen?

I've been waiting to purchase this year's version and I won't be doing so until the financial issues are fixed. It's unacceptable the game was shipped in this state, especially with a team of beta testers. Did none of them test the game many years into a sim?

Knowing that a huge chunk of the fanbase does historical sims, and modern-day MLB sims, the game should have never been released with the finances in this state. I want to have trust in the OOTP team that they'll fix this, but it should have never been released to the public in the state it's in for a $40 price tag.

That is because Historical play has long been the red headed step-child here at OOTP. Never getting the true attention it deserves.

Its been due for a major overhaul for years but it never happens and unfortunately OOTP 24 added even more problems to historical play.

But we have more accurate BABIP now.

I started a save in '76 and simmed through '76, taking over the '77 Mariners for the expansion draft, etc. I played through the '76 offseason, FA and trades went fine from what I see, big market teams purchased Reggie, Nolan et al, mid market/small market teams added mid tier FA and everyone seems to be fine financially with trades happening (set to very low) pretty normally from what I can tell.

I don't see any financial issues in my save thus far from starting in '76 and now I'm in April '77 about 2 weeks into the season. I signed J.R. Richard and Garry Maddox and had about 500k left which seemed about right.

What is weird to me though is that some team screens list "Money for Free Agents" where some have that entry missing entirely and just list it as like available funds or whatever. The numbers all seem fine but the entry itself is gone.
