Do some pitchers tire more as the season progresses?

Im in my second year and I noticed some pitchers start off great at the beginning of the year, then start to digress after the all-star break. Case in point, Chirs Bassitt was on fire during the beginning of the year both years but then started getting crushed in Aug.
Just wondering if this was something in the game engine to make the game more realistic as its true in real life, and if so is it with just some pitchers?

I don’t believe so. Without knowing any of his stats I’m going to assume he was outperforming his actual ability early in the year perhaps getting a b it lucky and as the year progressed he just regressed to the mean.

Did Bassitt's rating change over the course of the year?

In my experience some players are first half players and some are better in the second half. I had a player that would hit 10 home runs before the All-Star break in about 25 after.

I have watched Justin Verlander's stuff go down throughout the season, along with his performance. IIRC, stuff is now 45.

I manage every game so I have only made it to August in year one. Is there a chance his stuff will rebound late this year or next?

Don't discount a regression to the mean, I have just had one of the worst starting pitchers rotations till the All Star Break and their Sierra, ERA+ and Babip pointed towards happier times and now at the almost end of the season I suddenly have a stellar rotation.

It's not coming back. It sounds like in your game aging came for him and that's all she wrote. For pitchers over 30 it is extremely rare to see stuff go any direction but down and once the drop starts it is usually pretty fast. By the end of the year he might not be a big league caliber pitcher anymore and you've just got a big dead weight contract.

I suspect the Mets are gonna run into this problem in game a lot given Scherzer and Verlander's age and contracts. There is no "these guys are unicorns who don't seem to age" box to check and who knows they might lose it this year IRL. Their arms are gonna go at some point, even Nolan Ryan eventually got beat by father time.

Thanks! that sucks to hear.

I saw it happen with Scherzer in 23 - who is still going strong in 24, threw a no-hiiter with him last night & he's leading the league in pitcher WAR. Hope he holds on for another year or two.
