Euro: player sent to Europe -> traded -> sent again to the club that traded him

Steps to reproduce:
* trade a player, under a NHL contract but being sent back to Europe to another club as a player swap
* see him being taken from the club that got him and being sent back to the club that he was traded from

Started a new game in a Finnish Liiga. Started a new season with a latest patch version. Haven't seen this type of behaviour before!

Hmm...tested the behaviour with another loan from NHL and merry-go-round didn't occur.

It's possible this is an side effect having started a game with a starting point as 1st June 2022. The player mentioned in my first post signed a NHL contract after 1st July, but the player in my latter test was already loaned back to Europe when a game started.

So Leinonen had been returned by Buffalo to you, then you traded him and got that message again? Or was he on Buffalo's roster just before the trade?

I suppose 1 pic says more than my lousy English, look the history from 31st August 2022 onwards.

The trade I mentioned was done on November 11th, between JYP (my team) and Ilves (AI team). For some reason, Ilves received Leinonen in a trade but somehow he was back in my roster, as Buffalo "resent" him, if that's the correct term in the context.

For some reason player's Bio's "Complete history" won't show this operation, but as you can see, Leinonen returned from loan back to Buffalo as a JYP player, not an Ilves player, when the season ended.

I think I know why he's being sent back to JYP, it has to do with the mechanics of how the game identifies the proper team for an NHL-contracted European player to be returned to. Technically, it's making the right decision (it's checking the player's history for the last team he played a game for, and in this case he hadn't played any for Ilves yet), but what's going wrong is why Buffalo is doing that when he wasn't on their active roster. I'm not sure how that's happening, we'll have to do some investigating.
