Historical play from 1969

One complaint and one question.

When I want to run the royals from the beginning, I have to start the league the year before otherwise all the initial drafts are already done for the team.

I finished the first year and finished with the second worst record in the league and somehow I am drafting 21st????

DId I miss a setting somewhere?

I guess I can just go swap myself with the spot I should be in because I don't have the energy to reorder the way it is supposed to.

I am doing the same thing now, did the draft offline and reordered rosters before the season started. If you want to do the same thing I can send you each team's actual or best guess initial protected list and their additional 3 protectees after each round. I drafted for the Pilots according to history when I could and then their draft philosophy (win now) when I couldn't.

OK what is happening here is this.

The Draft order is simply the inverse of the previous season's standings, but in that first year when it is set there are no standings to go by so it just pumps out a random order.

A bit silly, but that's how it is.

You can either ignore it or look at the standings of the season just finished and edit accordingly.

It will be right and proper in subsequent Drafts.

Hope that helps.

Keep in mind that you can export your current draft pool and draft order to a CSV file, edit it, and then re-import it into OOTP. That option should be available from your draft pool menu. When you use it, OOTP will dumb multiple CSV files into your import/export folder, and you can edit the one for the draft order and then save and import it. You can change the order for the first round and then copy/paste as needed. However, if you've allowed draft pick trading, you may need to be careful about setting the right picks in the right order for certain teams.

But I finished the 1969 season and this is the draft held in December of 1969. So shouldn't it take the record from 1969?

It's ok. Thank you though. I'm not looking for a faithful simulation. I'm more interested in what if I took Robin Yount instead of Brett in the draft, kind of scenarios. But not forcing them. Just kind of wanted to take the team over before any decisions were made. (and judging by my record this first year, I did a worse job than real life loll) I also have the same problem with the starting a new league. I hate that I take over right before spring training. If I was running the royals after last season, I would have been in on some free agents.

That's right. Thanks for reminding me. That makes it less tedious.

Never ever happen....been requesting this 'quick start' for years.
No interest in fixing it.

I put that on a wish list here too, an option to start after the end of the prior season if it doesn't take too much work for the developers.

It is my impression we historical players are far outnumbered by those who want to play the current year and perhaps a couple in the future, and that we are also far outnumbered by those who play fictional.

I see, now I understand why it's a low priority. I've been kind of working around those barriers offline but would be more fun if it was made part of the OOTP experience. By the way, I follow your Pirates replay one of my plans was also to do the 1951 Pirates, but only through 1960, unless I win a pennant with them prior.

Play until you win! That would be cool.

Thanks for following Moneyball Pirates.

Nope, because irrespective of when you hold it, the game sees this as the 1969 Draft and derives the order from the 1968 standings - which, in this case, do not exist.
