Solo league AI ticket prices
In my solo league, I decided to scroll through the Front Offices of the other teams to see how everyone was doing financially. To my dismay I found several teams (at least 4) that should be charging more for their tickets. Only one other team besides mine is charging more than $10 for tickets.
In previous solo leagues, I had always seen teams that were not only doing well, but also selling out every game, jack prices up all the way to $13, especially those teams with smaller stadiums. Granted the last time I had really went looking around to check these things out were in OOTP4, so perhaps this is the way things work. I am currently using 5.13, and I really can't remember if previous versions were any different. This really only worries me because those teams that should be raking in an extra $3-6 million a year won't be as competitive as they could or should be, especially those teams that have small seating capacity. They are most likely to suffer because they won't have the money to spend when they easily should. Any thoughts? |

In my solo league everyone is $10 except:
Boston $13 (pretty good team) White Sox $9 Cincinatti $9 Detroit $11 (a really good team) Houston $8 (worst team) Kansas City $9 Twins $9 It does not appear that any teams are selling out constantly. Then again it's early in the season and everyone's attendance has been terrible thus far.

I took over the last place 2006 Pirates in my solo league, for the challenge of trying to turn around a REALLY bad team.
On the front office page the Pirates' fan interest is only 17 (compared to Cleveland's 91) and ticket prices are only $7. The team can't schedule promotion days because "you don't have enough cash." Of course it is in a small market, and the team's been absolutely terrible for 4 years. I raised ticket prices back to $9, hoping (foolishly?) to raise cash. I got someone to take my highest paid player off my hands, Jason Kendall at $7 million/year, in return for a 4 star minor league pitching prospect. But it surprised me to see the Pirates ticket prices so low, at only $7. Has anyone ever seen any team with ticket prices any lower? |

Not that this is an AI owner, but one of the teams in my on-line league was selling out most of their games and were already over the $20M cash cap we have and so as not to have to pay out to much to the other teams he dropped his ticket price to $1 for the 2nd half of the season. We're into the next season and he's now up to $2 as his payroll is very low and he's in rebuilding mode.

^ that isnt a good thing........ not realistic at all, who drops their tickets to $1? I understand it was just to screw everyone else, but I am not sure I'd let him do it!

If I were in his shoes, I'd do exactly the same thing. He's going to have enough money to sign decent free agents in the short term and when his prospects are a year or two away from the show he can raise the price to bolster his cash to sign the big stud FA's. My problem with what happened financially in the league after last season wasn't that he dropped his price, but that only one team got any money through revenue sharing even though there were at least 3 or 4 (myself included) that had lost money. But that's a topic for another thread... |
