And so we begin...

Looks like 150+ leagues and 4500+ teams to start the first week of OOTP24 Perfect Team.

All three of my teams made it to Silver, although that is obviously subject to change in seven days. I placed high in the Entry Pool but I wasn't on top, so staying in Silver for the time being will be my goal.

Good luck to everyone this year, and remember; it's a "game", not "sustenance". (Ok, maybe for some it's sustenance )

Just for sake of discussion, here's my opening day rosters. Baltimore and Akron looking the strongest - Cleveland looking a bit pathetic, but they did outperform themselves in the Entry Pool.

PS: If anyone is curious, I did receive bonus packs for playing since PT19 so the rosters do not represent exceptional luck

There is not a PP reward for promoting to Silver. Those start when you promote to Gold.

Oh. So the advantage of Silver this week is that your one week away from Gold?

The quick jump to Silver, for me at least, is due to being a 5-year PT player and getting the bonus packs as a result. I get to skip the grind through Rookie - Iron - and Bronze. However (as I already see in the first month of Season 1. "staying there" is another question. Two of my teams are already in the relegation zone, and the remaining one is holding on by the skin of their teeth (mostly because of PT+). The whales have already built their rosters up to 100% "Perfect-Diamond-Gold" status and are beating most of us up pretty good. Once they move up, it may be easier to stabilize in Silver and aim for Gold.

I'm also just loving another year of feigned shortages of live Silver players to keep the prices staggeringly high. It'll keep me focused on restarting the skybox supply and adding new 2d skies for those who still use them.

Another day and a half to go, but it looks like 2 of my three teams that jumped to Silver out of the gate will be regulated back to Bronze next week. One team "might" survive the assault. Surprisingly, the team that joined PT+ is one of the relegated teams. So far, that investment isn't paying off.

All that said, however, it's really. REALLY early for v24 so patience has to rule for now. Probably on Monday, I'll have time to provide rosters and final landing places.

"I'm also just loving another year of feigned shortages of live Silver players" - it's not feigned - there are 958 live cards right now. 605 are irons and bronzes and they comprise nearly 75% of all live cards in packs. 196 are silvers and they are about 20% of live cards in packs. But with 30 teams, there aren't enough irons and bronzes to complete all the live missions, even the level 1's. And "everybody" does the live missions. So the average guy here gets nearly 4 times as many irons and bronzes as silvers, and the first one of each they get they keep for mission completion.

Once the live card ratings are adjusted in the first week of May, the missions will get a lot easier to complete because of the reduction in level of many of the currently high value cards.

And of course with the inflated value of silvers, absolutely nobody is opening silver packs and making a killing...never happen...

The difference between a Silver and a standard pack is 1000 PP; most silvers aren't selling for quite that much, so you'd be taking a loss if you were buying Silvers to take account of the market imbalance. Basically, the market imbalance is not severe enough to cause that kind of correction.

Explain why many silvers are selling higher than gold.

this phenomenon in the last two versions of PT makes the mission experience and card shop depressing. Log in to try and complete a level 1 mission and just close the whole thing out because it's out of whack.

I know, go buy your points and it won't matter.

OR just wait. Is there some reason missions need to be completed today? In October, the live missions will cost less than the QS value of Santana.

Of course you can wait. But what fun is that now.

The fun is being a seller.

PT has a deflationary economy. If you buy a player now, you probably will not get as much when you sell him; this creates a situation where you are essentially renting the player for the difference between the buy price, and the future sales price. Or, to put it another way, it's as if you're paying the player a salary.

The missions are the same thing -- you can pay more to finish them now, or finish them cheaply later. I entered the cycle last year when it was possible to finish them cheaply -- a brand new account could used their $1000 dollars to complete enough missions, sell the results, and keep going, getting all the live missions done in the course of a few mad hours hitting buy orders and still keeping the best of the rewards.

The fun in this situation is that the decisions are interesting. When do I decide that the value of having the thing "now" is worth the premium I pay for it? Can I pick up some bargains somewhere? How do I stay competitive without that player *now*, knowing that I can get him more cheaply later?

Either way, my team feels more uniquely like my creation, now, than it did last year where as I climbed I was in leagues where the OPS leaders in a league were Hank Aaron, Hank Aaron, Hank Aaron, Hank Aaron, and Hank Aaron.

I'll be waiting for the economics experts to offer their pretzel logic on why we now are plagued with 200/300 point Irons, and many silvers haven't budged.

Spoiler alert: It's called manufactured shortage.
