Bahrain GP is still in progress, but I have a hot take: Lando's 5-year deal with McLaren (or, as I like to call them, Mc*****) was a spectacular career-ending move. Like signing a contract with the Marlins.

Car was **** in testing, car was **** in practice, he only made it out of Q1 by setting an equal time to Logan Sargeant first. 20 Laps into the race: crap pit stop for Lando, gearbox failure for Piastri, another shaky pit stop, and I think the brakes are still not working, he missed turn 1 more than once, and right now is 19th of ... well, with Piastri out, 19.

Poor Lando.

Why am I always rooting for the punching bags?

I didn't expect McLaren to be the backmarkers this year, but here we are. I feel bad for Lando getting stuck there this year because I don't really think the upgrades they are touting are going to help, unfortunately. I would love to be wrong for his sake, but I do also want to see someone take that spotlight that isn't Williams for a change.

With any luck, Lando can knit a woollen cover for his orange tea pot by Australia, which will be just as aerodynamically deficient and slow as lard as what they have now, but will at least hide their shame a bit better.

Yes, looking forward to discussing F1 on this thread. Got into it from playing Motorsport Manager on Steam (bit older but great game, check it out sometime), and of course the Netflix doc.

Interesting that Danny Ric is going to come out of this smelling like roses by not racing this season unless McLaren get their act together

Fun Fact: Ferrari have taken 26 points from the first three races - the fewest they have collected from the first three races of any season since we went to the current points system in 2010.

Even in their last real annus horibilis in 2020, they scored 27 thanks to Leclerc lucking into a second place at the opener in Austria, largely due to carnage (f.e. neither Red Bull finished) and partially due to the 5-second penalty that dropped Hamilton out of second place and gave Last Lap Lando his first podium.

Before that, Ferrari scored zilch in the first three races of the 2009 season.

I just want to know what it would take, now 3 years on, to be 4, what it would take for China to be sure about its race date on the calendar. I mean, we've gone to a few places twice a year recently, and some tracks have lost their spot on the calendar. Feels like a waste

Well, for a start, whatever Chinese authority is the official host there, has a valid contract with F1 to hold a GP there. That's why it's always back on the calendar, and always gets scratched.

Now, don't quote me on that, but I think I saw that the last Chinese GP under that contract would be held in 2024. Could always be extended of course.

IIRC the Canadian race got an extension after its cancelation in 20 and 21
