Because it keeps crashing when I try to play it. And the most recent update introduced a new (to me) bug that flags the not enough players in lineup/activate ghost players pop-up message even though I set the season to not play any games. Iow, though no games are scheduled for the entire season the game is telling me it can't play a non-existing game from a non-existing schedule because it doesn't have enough players for a full lineup. So time to move on. Might purchase 23, see how far I get with it. At least it wasn't crashing.

So, to provide more backstory -- I deleted the AAA league giving the not enough players error even though no games were scheduled. Problem solved? Not so fast. Now the same error is occurring with the MLB league even though I also have no games scheduled for that season. Every season the game generates about a half dozen games in April for a schedule that does not exist, so I have to stop and manually delete each game so the sim can continue.

You still have spring training selected (at least in the file loaded). That would generate games when the league rolls over to the next season.

Please explain why a season is scheduled to not play any games? I don't doubt you having crashes but not scheduling games for a season of MLB/Baseball seems a bit odd to me. I must be missing sumpthin

Matt, I'm just getting started with '24. And I'm obviously not privy to 'behind the scenes' details of this particular event, as experienced by Honus.
But you do realize that, for someone like me, your post makes absolutely no sense and just confused me (and possibly others) right?
Like, shouldn't he have spring training selected for the next season? When would/should he turn it off? What am I missing? It's certainly not covered earlier in the thread. (At least I don't think it is. But I've been wrong before. Once or twice.)

Aside from that, I'm just not sure whether to laugh or cry about the wide range of emotions expressed in this thread. That is certainly running the full gamut, and I'm inclined to believe we're not finished yet. I'm an optimist at heart so I have to believe this isn't over.

I would argue that the OP has done a poor job of explaining their issue, which seems to be self-inflicted from what I can tell.

They have a AAA league, but have completely deleted its' schedule.

They are getting an error for the AAA teams not having full lineups (although could easily just turn on the Ghost player option to avoid that error). They do not believe they should get this error since they have deleted the schedule.

Matt pointed out that they deleted the regular season schedule, but did not turn off Spring Training. So, the error is happening when the game tries to play a spring training game but team(s) do not have full lineups.

That makes sense, thank you. I just missed most of that in the thread, which kinda troubles me. But that's another matter.

For a strong release, why was so much content removed? We all know about the leagues being removed. Cash grab.

Yes, I thought of this after I posted. So I unselected spring training. The error is now being generated in April, regular season. The game keeps creating a half dozen games in April for one team, that one team has one player. This flags the error. I clear the games manually and sim the rest of the season. Then in April it happens again. And it's always the same team, and the same number of non-existent games, on the same dates.

I don't detect much emotion. I was genuinely impressed by what I saw in 24 out of the box. The rest speaks for itself I would think. If these things get fixed then alls good but so far the initial patches haven't done it.

I can only speak for myself and my ten friends that I know that play OOTP. All the posts on here regarding the game, the patches, it's really why we do a "wait and see". To a person, we would all pre-order years ago, but the last three or four years, except for two of us, we've waited until later in the year to purchase. I didn't buy 23 until November, when it was $ 9.99. Not cheap, I was just enjoying 22, until I finally decided it was time for a change.

And don't get me wrong, we enjoy OOTP23, after all the patches, and with the help of feedback from customers, it's enjoyable to play. We just want a polished product and realize that takes time. Nothing against the developers. Just can't see playing a game that's got issues, that detracts from the fun. And this year, we've all pretty much agreed to wait for some mods that add other leagues before purchasing. I've been playing since OOTP4, and will continue to support, just not right away.

Ditto. Have no problem rolling back to 23. Have been playing more or less for 10yrs myself. I play more a sandbox game, so am perhaps more likely to find errors than if I were replaying seasons or using the latest league settings and data.

So they put unlicensed leagues in as a cash grab, and now they've taken them out as a cash grab?

They get chastised for being unethical**, now they get chastised for being ethical.

We had a user here, during the blow up, that said he was going to, and then did, contact every league included in OOTP to try to get them to enforce their copyrights. This alone made Com2Us/OOTP's decision an easy one. Add in that it is also the right one for many reasons, but cash grab isn't one of them

** Most of what they did is not an issue in most countries with most leagues, and , let's face it, users here encouraged it. Then, after the fact, were morally outraged after knowingly using the unlicensed leagues. Go figure Lucky for me I don't care either way as I never did, nor would, use any of those leagues.

WTF? Really? Some people just want to watch the world burn I guess and have to ruin it for everyone.

Of course, outside of Japan those leagues have no copyright protections unless logos or images are used. So even if Honkball got upset there's nothing they can do. Just like how games like Strat o Matic don't license MLB even though they use real names and stats.

I'll wait about 3 months and then I'll get 24. Usually at the all-star break the game is half price, and by then 99% of the bugs have been worked out. OOTP23 is working flawlessly in terms of the 3D animation for me - I haven't had a crash in more than six months.

Did 45 fix? It seems to have fixed my issue, sounded similar to yours.

Also - in the message-in-a-bottle.zip game files you looked at for the crash issue (which is fixed now after 45 update!) I used the same setup - 0 games scheduled, with spring training checked. And... no problems.

So now the question is - could the two issues be related?
